Susan Otcenas has a keen eye for erratic drivers. She’s logged thousands of miles on her bike, riding between her business in Hillsboro and to meetings in and around Portland.

Last Sunday night, while driving, she watched in horror as the car in front of her struck a cyclist riding in a bike lane on TV highway in Beaverton…and then kept on going.

Bike art garden comes to local school

Last Friday, Nikkie West of the Community Cycling Center put the final touches on a bike art garden at Abernethy Elementary school in Southeast Portland.

The garden includes six artistic sculptures (see them all) made from recycled bike parts and was a collaborative effort between West – the CCC’s recycling coordinator – and Beret Halverson. Beret (pronounced Brett) and Nikkie met in Americorps and now Beret is in charge of Abernethy’s organic garden.

Are you having trouble keeping track of all the Pedalpalooza events? With 140 rides happening in just over two weeks, it can be tough staying on top of it all.

I thought it would be cool to have a tiny version of the calendar I could just keep in my wallet.

To create one, I used a nifty online tool called PocketMod. It’s a utility that converts PDF files into a format that allows you to make tiny little booklets.

Sneak peek at new Bridge Pedal helmet

Bridge Pedal head honcho Rick Baumann just sent me these photos of the 2006 Bridge Pedal commemorative helmet.

Graphic designer Michael Morrow and his Portland-based company Nutcase Helmets, have created what is sure to be a popular item. I was lucky enough to grab one of last year’s helmets (thanks Ric!) and I’m looking forward to adding this one to my collection.
