California here I come…

…right back where I started from.
In a few hours I board a plane with my girls for a holiday trip to California. We’re headed to my mom’s house in the quaint, northern Orange County city of Cypress.
My parent’s house, where I spent my formative years, is at the end of a cul-de-sac in a suburban subdivision. I haven’t been down there for two years so it will be interesting to return.
I’m looking forward to the trip and to seeing my mom, brothers, uncle, aunt, cousins, etc…
I plan to keep working and writing stories, but don’t be surprised if volume tapers off for the next few weeks. Thankfully, I’ve got a few people who I’m hoping can submit guest articles and track down news stories and photos if needed.
I also hope to get a taste of the burgeoning bike culture in neighboring Los Angeles. The Midnight Ridazz (several of whom I met on their recent visit to Portland) are going strong, and we’re meeting the guy who started a cool ride known as C.R.A.N.K. Mob.
Stay tuned for your regularly scheduled programming and some dispatches from the concrete jungle.

You know I'm a California girl myself, Jonathan.
All these dreary gray days are getting to me. Feel free to bring us back some sun.
Sioban and I have are becoming friends and it looks like we will be able to help each other.
I hope you have a great holiday and some good rides in the O.C. :)
Thanks again for all you do. Portland needs you.

Welcome back to California, Jonathan.
Your work in Portland is world class. In fact,I learned of BikePortland in CyclingPlus, a UK magazine. We all look forward to your future efforts.
PS It rains in California too, (sometimes).
Enjoy your time in the Southland.

Hey all,
Jonathan is too modest to mention it, but now would be a great time to hit the ole' tip jar.
Merry Christmas!
December 20th, 2007 12:24
I'll be down there a few days myself, in the ole' South Bay. I try to limit my time tho.

I too would like to take advantage. Thanks, Mr. Maus, for the forum. I didn't realize you were from California. That's a little sarcasm. Happy holidays to you and yours. I hope the new year brings health to you and your family. I wish you the best of luck in keeping your blog running. My guess is that it is a tremendous amount of work. Although I don't find myself aligned with the politics, I am grateful none-the-less to have BikePortland.org as a gathering place. Even if that probably was never your intent.
Happy Holidays everyone!

Hi Jonathan,
Thanks for this monumental work. BikePortland.org is just amazing network of people and community.
I relocated from Toronto in Canada to Carlsbad,CA. Business travel brings me to PDX at least once a month. I love the cycling culture in PDX. Do you know of any urban cycling groups in North County of San Diego area. I would really like to connect with more like-minded people about urban cycling.
Happy Holidays. Safe travel.

Enjoy Jonathan - we'r right behind you - heading down to Santa Cruz area for a very sandy and surf filled Christmas. Taking the bikes with us. ( Got the boys their very own high quality bikes - a Trek and a Gary Fisher.) Thanks for all you quality journalism. Keeping up the quality of this site is harder than it looks but you make it seem easy and fun.
See everyone in the New Year.
