Metro hearing on bike project funding tonight

Posted by Jonathan Maus (Editor) on February 13th, 2007 at 12:09 pm

I’m a bit late on this, but a very important opportunity for public input on Metro projects is happening at 5:30 tonight at their headquarters on 600 NE Grand Ave.

From the Oregonian:

“The Metro Council will hold a public hearing at 5:30 tonight on transportation projects that will split about $45 million in special flexible federal funds.”

There are several bike projects up for consideration.

The money comes from Metro’s Transportation Priorities process. They’ll decide on which projects to fund next month and the money will be spent between 2008 and 2011.

We can get new bike trails built and important trail planning studies started if enough people speak up.

Some key bike projects being considered are;

  • a 50s bike boulevard from NE Thompson to SE Woodstock St.
  • a new Greenway Trail on the South Waterfront
  • a study for the Sullivan’s Gulch Trail

    Oh too bad I've got other plans tonight. I'm really hoping something comes about from the Sullivan's Gulch trail. There's a drastic need for a safer direct route into town from the Montevilla neighborhood. I've just had too many close calls along the Tillimook/Hancock boulevard lately...
