Portland pro gets rear-ended Down Under

Portland-based professional bike racer Doug Ollerenshaw—who I rode with back in February—is currently in Melbourne, Australia battling with world's top road racers in the week-long Herald Sun Tour stage race.
On Monday, at the finish of the second stage, Doug was in a crash. From the picture you can tell it was bad, but the worst part is that this photo ended up being plastered on the inside back cover of the Herald Sun newspaper, the largest circulation newspaper in Australia.

"Perhaps unsurprisingly, a photo of my naked, shredded ass in a large newspaper did not go unnoticed by many. The next morning, I did a phone interview with some Melbourne based Wacky Morning DJs, a television interview for Channel 10, and an interview with the Sun to provide them with a follow up story for the next day's paper, which received just as much space as the story about the race itself. I also autographed a copy of my photo in the Sun for some spectators at the stage 3 finish. And just today, while struggling up the finishing climb, someone at the roadside cheered me on by name, then enquired about the status of my "bum." It's been very strange."
Doug's has a tough year of racing. Back in May I wrote about an injury he got in a crash during a race in Europe.
Hey Doug! Keep the rubber side down man, and hurry back to Portland for some R & R. And don't worry, most of will still always remember you for your big win at the '05 Sea Otter Classic.
