Traffic advisory: ODOT to close sections of I-205 corridor through January

As part of their federal stimulus funded project to install overhead lighting on the I-205 non-motorized corridor, ODOT is planning to close sections of the of the popular biking thoroughfare from October 18th through early-mid January. Path users can expect detours between Clackamas and Gladstone during construction

As part of a project to install overhead lighting on the I-205 Multi-Use Path, contractor Stacy and Witbeck, Inc. will temporarily close portions of the path between Clackamas and Gladstone beginning next week.

You might have noticed a bright new bike-inspired piece of public art on N. Williams Avenue just north of Fremont. The large panel is part of a multi-piece wall of murals that have gone up around the Boise-Eliot Outdoor Market.

The artist, former planner (design review) for the City of Portland Chris Beanes, emailed me the other day to tell me about the painting. I asked him to share his inspiration and a bit more background.

New documentary on the Holiday Bike Drive: Watch the trailer

Do you remember?

Portland filmmaker Chad Berkley is making a film about the Community Cycling Center’s awesome annual event, the Holiday Bike Drive. Remember Your First Bike? is slated for completion next spring but Berkley has already put together a trailer for the film and has just launched a Kickstarter page to help raise some funds to finish it up.

In the film, Berkley takes a behind the scenes look at how the magical 500 bike giveaway happens and interviews CCC volunteers and staffers for their perspectives. Berkley also includes interviews with notable Portlanders including Mayor Sam Adams and others.

Candidates weigh in on bicycling: BTA releases survey responses

“In order to help educate members on transportation policy issues,” the Bicycle Transportation Alliance has published responses to a questionnaire given to candidates for public office in the upcoming elections. The BTA’s Legislative Committee put the survey together and asked four questions about “critical” bike-related issues.

The questions went out to candidates for every major office in the upcoming elections including races for Governor, the U.S. Senate and House, the Oregon Senate and House, County Commissioner races throughout the state, and the race for Metro President. Of the 80 candidates that were contacted, 42 responded and 38 did not.

Pedal-powered B-Line helps downtown dry cleaner be more “Eco”

After celebrating a successful first year in business back in April, B-Line Sustainable Urban Delivery continues to help Portland businesses move their goods without burning fossil fuels.

According to an announcement made yesterday, B-Line has now teamed up with Eco Dry Cleaner to handle the majority of their downtown deliveries and customer pick-ups. The partnership means that Eco Dry Cleaner has replaced several of their delivery trucks with B-Lines cargo trikes (made by local builder Bill Stites) which can carry loads of up to 600 pounds.

Description: When i had my bike last, it had white bar tape and a black Vetta seat on it. The cable on the top tube was white The wheels were quick release 700cc with continental tires on them. The back tire was in poor condition and fraying around the valve so much that the tube was visible. I had black plastic toe clips on the pedals. The pedals were black with reflective orange plastic on the edges. The stem was painted black. On the top tube decal, the second ‘n’ in ‘Cannondale’ was scrached off on one side. I don’t recall all of the components that were on my bike, but i know some were Shimano.
