Drivers will be expected to assemble, disassemble, repair, and fit potential customers or retailers to bikes on location. Job focus is to help expose dealers and consumers to the Felt brand. General schedule will include travel to, and attendance of, key consumer and dealer events throughout the year. The specifics of each agenda will vary depending on whether it is a race, festival, dealer clinic or other, but the underlying goal of creating positive brand awareness with an eye towards supporting sales will remain the same in each case. When not traveling you will work closely with Sales, Marketing and Customer Service, either in FELT’s Irvine/Ontario, CA or Buffalo, NY location(s) depending on base.

General Duties and Responsibilities

*You will be working with FELT’s local area sales representatives doing clinics with our retailers. There will be some occasions where you may not have the local area sales representative with you, but even without him/her the objectives remain the same. The primary function of the Sales Tech Representative is to explain who we are as a company and a brand, all with an eye on supporting and contributing to our sales goals.

This past weekend, the Cross Crusade headed to Astoria for a double-header of racing and Halloween fun. I wasn’t able to make it up there this year, but I wanted to share some of the hilarious costumes and scenes from the event.

Thanks to photographers Dave Roth and David Haines for letting me use their excellent images…

Metro president candidate Tom Hughes wants a bike registration fee

Buffered Bike Lane with a bike symbol and arrow pointing forward

“… I would like to see, even if it’s just a token registration fee, or some mechanism to go to the bicycle community, and say OK, you need to pay a share of the cost of providing those facilities
— Tom Hughes, candidate for Metro President

BikePortland reader and citizen activist Spencer Boomhower just brought to our attention that Metro president candidate Tom Hughes says he’d like to see a registration fee for bicycles in our region.

Hughes’ comment came during the Q & A session of a candidate forum at the Rose City Park Neighborhood Association on October 30th. Hughes was asked a question by Terry Parker (a somewhat infamous and prolific citizen activist known for his ‘bicyclists are freeloaders’ diatribes) who asked about tolls on the Columbia River Crossing project. Parker said the tolls were “being placed on the back of the motorists and it seems like the tolls ought to be spread out among all the users.” He then asked Hughes what he thought of tolling on the CRC project.

After Hughes explained why he’s “in favor of moving forward with the project as proposed,” he addressed Parker’s concern about the tolls and offered his desire for a bike registration fee:

New crossing at MLK and Going: How does it work for you?

A local TV news outlet is questioning the safety benefit of a crossing treatment recently completed as part of the N. Going bike boulevard project.

I got an email from Scott Burton at KGW TV (Portland’s NBC affiliate) on Friday that they were doing a story about the crossing on their 11 o’clock news. Burton said they’ve received several complaints that since the change, the crossing has become more dangerous. He also said they witnessed a few close calls (bike/car) and that a person walking across was “severely injured” after being hit by a car last week.

Bid on bike items in Street Roots fundraiser auction

Buffered Bike Lane with a bike symbol and arrow pointing forward

Street Roots is a great local non-profit newspaper that employs people that live on the street (or are otherwise without a home of their own). They have a new column by the Portland Police Bureau’s bicycle community liaison Robert Pickett and they’ve covered many biking issues in the past. Editor Israel Bayer got in touch recently about their annual online auction. This year they’ve got lots of great bike-related items to bid on….

And there’s more! Get over there and bid on some great stuff and support a vital local independent news source.

Studded tire season is here: Where’s the effort to ban them?

Just say no.
(Graphic: BanStuddedTires.com)

Today is November 1st, the first official day of studded tire season in Oregon. Back in March we shared why people who ride bikes should care that studded tires do $50-60 million in road damage each year and we also shared that one man was committed to putting a stop to it.

Portland citizen activist Jeff Bernards and a group of volunteers want to ban studded tires in Oregon through a ballot initiative that would be filed in 2012. I checked in with Bernards today to see how things are going.

Portlander Matt Picio (founder of Cycle Wild, an awesome non-profit that leads carfree camping trips) sent along a photo this morning of a recent bike tour he led out on the Oregon Coast. The photo captures a great example of bike activism in action…
