Can you believe it? Cross is almost here.

This Sunday the venerable Cross Crusade holds its kickoff bash. Now’s the time to commit to a season pass and prep your body, mind, and bike for the upcoming season.

Of course there’s also a few fun options for more laid-back riders. Roll southeast for a chill ride with our friends from Bike Milwaukie or grab some friends and do the Bike Scout Scavenger Hunt.

Here’s the guide to all the goodness…

Friday, August 25th

Breakfast on the Bridges – 7:00 to 9:00 am on Hawthorne and Steel Bridges
Portland’s best breakfast isn’t in a restaurant. Give yourself extra time on the way into downtown to stop and chat over coffee and munchies with really great people. More info here.

The Weekend Event Guide is sponsored by Abus Bike Locks. Thanks Abus!

Vigil for Tamar Monhait – 5:30 pm at corner of SE Water and Taylor
Bike Loud PDX is organizing this event to raise awareness of the dangerous intersection where a woman sustained fatal injuries earlier this week. More info here.

Friday Evening No-Drop Road Ride – 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Western Bikeworks (1015 NW 17th)
What better way to end your week than a relaxed road ride led by the fine folks at Western Bikeworks. Expect a 1.5-hour ride at a conversational pace. More info here.

Saturday, August 26th

Sorella Forte Women’s Club Ride – 9:00 am at River City Bicycles (706 SE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd)
Excellent group training ride led by members of Sorella Forte. Come out and meet the team and learn what it’s all about while improving fitness and group riding skills. Moderate pace of 15-17 mph. More info here.

Saturday Casual Ride- 9:30 am at Milwaukie City Hall (10722 SE Main St in Milwaukie)
Roll from Milwaukie to the Cartlandia food cart pods via the Springwater Corridor and then end at the new food carts in Milwaukie. Part of a new series of rides to help build community among Milwaukie residents. Everyone is welcome! More info here.

Sunday, August 27th

Giro PDX – 9:00 am at Sunstone Montessori (6318 SW Corbett)
A.k.a Le Foglie Morte di Sud Portlandia, this route inspired by the Giro di Lombardia, promises to open your eyes, leg muscles, and lungs. At 53 miles and over 7,000 feet of climbing the organizers describe it as, “Hard. Beautiful. Varied. Eye opening. Classic.” Explore new roads through SW Portland, Lake Oswego, West Linn, and Stafford Triangle. More info here.

Bike Scout Scavenger Hunt – 12:30 pm at Ecliptic Brewing (825 N Cook)
Annual scavenger hunt put on by the same folks who bring you Filmed By Bike. This ride is a game played on the streets that pits troops of scouts against each other in a friendly competition. Be the first team to complete the challenges and collect the treasures and you’ll win prizes and bragging rights. Costumes strongly encouraged. More info here.

Cyclocross Crusade Kickoff Party – 4:00 pm at Chris King Precision Components (2801 NW Nela)
Cross is here! Help kickoff the 24th annual Cross Crusade and get pre-registered for the series. Buy a season pass and you’ll receive a Cross Crusade t-shirt and one free race entry. More info here.

For those of you planning to ride bikes to the Cyclocross Crusade kick-off event Sunday, please USE EXTREME CAUTION when crossing the railroad tracks near Chris King. They are very, very treacherous. Also, please bring a bike lock with you. Thank you!
