Welcome to my mostly-weekly video roundup! I’ve gone through about a hundred videos this week, and I’m starting off by featuring this fantastic video of Darren Alff’s tour of Norway and Sweden. He has a great recording style and the terrain is beautiful. Also, he’s riding a Co-Motion, how great is that?

Brompton put up a factory tour. All their manufacturing is done in Britain, not just “made in China, assembled in Britain”. (also: here’s their new factory)
Self-driving cars have let people to discover the ‘trolley problem’. It’s nice to see someone resisting that as being a legitimate concern towards the adoption of the cars:
GCN has this smart and snappy video about how to walk (with) your bike. They’ve done several of these, they are funny and generally accurate for capturing roadie styles. (I prefer the stem hold)
This is a ride test of a relatively cheap e-bike. The complaints about the oversized box are strange, but the ride test is really good. He abuses the bike a bit in the name of science. He comes around to the realization that he isn’t the target market for the bike.

Hi Ted, Thanks so much for featuring the video from my cross-Norway and Sweden bike tour in your list of videos his week. I really appreciate it… and I hope your readers like the video as well. Maybe it will inspire some of them to get out and do some bicycle touring of their own?
The robodriving video has some appalling logic: People break the law by talking on their phones while driving therefore, instead of actually enforcing the safety law or looking for simple technology that would block people from using their phones while driving, we should allow quick adoption of unproven robodriving technology and make people not legally responsible for who their car kills. Not so “nice to see” BikePortland endorsing this crazy argument.
“unproven robodriving technology” is far safer than unproven human drivers.
There is absolutely no data/reality to back this up. What is the real world accident rate for autonomous driving? Nobody knows. We do know that two of the very, very few people actually robo driving ended up dead.

The Ted talk guy continues the robocars will save the world drivel. Why would people buy fewer cars if they can drive themselves? That’s not what Tesla and all the other automakers are hoping to cash in on. Why would people drive less if driving is made easier? The more likely dystopian scenario is millions of more cars circling city streets aimlessly without drivers on “limitless free energy” just in case they are needed.
