Saturday
North Portland Sharrows to Sparrows Ride – 9:00 am
Join expert guide Mike Houck from the Urban Greenspaces Institute and PBOT’s Greg Raisman for this ride that starts at Pier Park (in St. Johns) and goes to beautiful natural areas at Smith and Bybee Lakes. There will be guest speakers including neighbors, BES, PBOT, Friends of Trees, and Audubon staff along the way. In addition, Mike is an amazing bird and natural area expert that is always great to learn from. Bring binoculars, a camera, and water. (Meet at Pier Park parking lot, N Bruce Ave and James St)
East Portland Transportation Town Hall – 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm
Got a gripe about the lack of good biking streets and bike parking in East Portland? Ever wanted to blow off steam upon the folks at TriMet, ODOT, & PBOT, ALL AT THE SAME TIME? Got transportation infrastructure questions you’ve always wanted to ask, but never had an opportunity? Then come! Featuring: Oregon State Senators Jackie Dingfelder, Rod Monroe, and Chuck Thomsen will be joined by State Representatives Jeff Reardon, Michael Dembrow, Shemia Fagan, Chris Gorsek, Alyssa Keny-Guyer and Jessica Vega Pederson in hosting a Transportation Town Hall in Portland focused on the issues in East Portland. With Special Guests: Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) Director Matt Garrett ODOT Region 1 (including Portland) Director Jason Tell TriMet General Manager Neil McFarlane Portland Bureau of Transportation Interim Director Toby Widmer … and many other transportation officials to speak to and answer questions about transportation issues in East Portland. Biking About Architecture: Montavilla – 1:00 pm
From Shift: “Brand-new for 2013: Montavilla Manses + Frazer Park! Let’s check out Milepost 5, a Terry Gilliam funhouse, a bunker home, a grotto, plus parquet palaces and WTFs and, bc it’s Spring, art gardens (dinosaurs and elves)! This easy, slow, laid-back ride (~ 8 miles max) is mostly fun with not much edification; ends at the Laurelwood NE for beer and nosh (bring some cash). Let’s ride!” (Meet at Milepost 5, 900 NE 81st)
Sunday
Arbor Month Tree Nursery Ride – 9:00 am to 1:00 pm
Join City Forester, Jenn Cairo, and retired Hoyt Arboretum curator Fred Neilson, on a 32 mile ride out the Springwater Corridor to Treephoria Nursery in Boring, Oregon. Once there we’ll enjoy a behind the scenes tour of this unique boutique tree nursery, before making the trip back to Lents Park. 16 and over. Hosted by Portland Parks & Recreation. More info here . Willamette Gran Fondo
A 100 mile group ride with 6,600 feet of climbing! The route begins in Philomath and takes you through Alsea Falls and the Lobster Valley area for “a spring ride you will not forget.” The Gran Route is not for the faint of heart with 6800 ft of Climbing and several sustained climbs along the way.
