Description: My bike is a bright red men’s Cannondale Cad4 Saeco edition about 10 years old. (I think the frame is a 157). I have done a lot to this bike over the past few years that hopefully will catch someones attention if they spot it. It was in excellent condition and very clean, It has mostly Dura Ace components including brakes, integrated shifters, and crank levers, however I replaced the rear derailleur with a Shimano XTR, I also put custom fenders on front and back, took off the water bottle cages, swapped my clip in pedals for plain silver non clip ones, and installed a rear rack . There were front led lights and 2 rear lights as well as 2 black and silver Ortlieb bags on the bike at the time it was taken.

David Auker, a 62-year-old Portland resident who has been racing and riding in the Pacific northwest since the 1970s, will once again lead his annual Thanksgiving day ride tomorrow.

The ride was first held in 1997; but this year’s edition is especially sweet given that it comes just over two years after Auker suffered a serious stroke while on a ride and spent three weeks in the hospital. (I shared more about Auker and his road to recovery when I chatted with him and his friends at his birthday celebration back in January.)

Portland’s cargo bike love and expertise spreads to Texas

There are few things I love more than to see bike culture spread. It happens so frequently, I think, because people are passionate about bicycling and they can’t help but share it with others.

For southeast Portland resident Tom LaBonty, his passion is cargo bikes, and he just got back from Texas where he gave two-day workshop on how to build them. LaBonty was invited to Texas by Bike Friendly Oak Cliff (BFOC), a group of advocates based in Dallas (as part of their Cyclesomatic event). They learned about LaBonty after viewing “One Less Truck,” a documentary by Portland-based filmmaker Joe Biel.

Sunset Cycles loses lease, will close Beaverton location

Buffered Bike Lane with a bike symbol and arrow pointing forward

Our friends at Sunset Cycles have just announced the closure of their Beaverton store. They plan to consolidate into their Bethany Village location. Full details below…

Portland’s Premier West Side Bicycle Shop Consolidates Stores, Renews Focus

November 20, 2012–Beaverton, Oregon–Citing economic concerns and challenging lease terms, Sunset Cycles owner Roger Colwell has announced his intention to close the doors of his Beaverton location.

“A change in ownership of the space we rented left us in a tough spot,” said Colwell. “We had to choose between signing a lease that wasn’t in our best interests, or consolidating our resources and focusing on our Bethany Village store.”

As the premier bicycle store on Portland’s West side, Sunset Cycles offers bikes and accessories for every rider, from elite-level racers to weekend neighborhood enthusiasts and their families. Shuttering their Beaverton store, according to Colwell, helps his staff better serve their core customer and attract new business.

“The bottom line is we now will be able to concentrate on doing what we do best…that is, giving all of our customers a better all-around bicycle experience,” he said. “I’m as optimistic as ever for the future of the bike business and for Sunset Cycles.”

Shoppers looking for a bargain will benefit from the Beaverton store closing, where deep discounts of up to 60% can be found on bikes and accessories until January 31st, 2013.
