This just in from ODOT:
Bike/ped path closed on SB Interstate Bridge
Gate protecting the public during bridge lifts inoperable because of electrical problemsThe bike and pedestrian path on the southbound span of the Interstate Bridge will be closed until next week to repair electrical problems with the gate.
Bicyclists and pedestrians may use the path on the northbound span as a detour.
The gate, on southern end of the span, keeps bike and pedestrian traffic safe during bridge lifts.
ODOT hopes to open the path by the middle of next week.

any idea how much bike and ped traffic that southbound path gets in a week?
The City (CoV) and CRC did some counts a 3+years back. Peak commute hour was in the 30s. With total over 100/ day.
Extra caution: the northbound sidewalk (east side of bridge) is the narrower one!
“Bicyclists and pedestrians may use the path on the northbound span as a detour.”
Sure, since both sidewalks are open to bikes and peds in either direction, anyway. (Biking the same direction as cars is good advice, I agree, when both sides are open.)
“The gate, on southern end of the span, keeps bike and pedestrian traffic safe during bridge lifts.”
I guess there must be a gate on the northern end of the span, too? Sure hope so! 🙂
