Two local watering holes/bike hangouts are showing the legendary Paris-Roubaix bike race. Velo Cult Bike Shop (1969 NE 42nd) will show it on their big projector starting at 4:00 pm (and if you’re inspired, they also sell bikes!). Apex Bar (1216 SE Division) will also show it on several big screen TVs starting at 4:00 and they’re tapping a rare beer Belgian beer to go with it. If you go, make sure you root for hometown hero Jacob Rathe who’s making his big debut with the Garmin-Barracuda team!

Local shop Western Bike Works is kicking off a new event. Time Trials are a great way to give racing a try because you’ll be riding alone, against the clock. For seasoned riders, they’re a great way to test your fitness. PIR is just a few miles north of downtown, so it’s an easy venue to access if you live in Portland. More info

Yet it’s such a perfect weekend for a long, scenic ride of your own. I went up the Historic Columbia River Highway on Monday and it was great. Just don’t expect the same balmy feeling in the upper reaches of Larch Mountain Road (very much closed at the snow gate).
Cycle Wild has an overnight camping trip out to the Columbia Gorge and Ainsworth State Park!
Meet at 9:30am at Cleveland Ave MAX Station in Gresham.
