Weekend Event Guide

BTA New Year's Day Ride-6

We’ve got a few great events to share with you to help you make the most of what will probably be a wet and cold weekend.  Ride safely and have fun!

Friday, January 7th

6:00pm-9:00pm: First Friday Art by Bike
This free monthly art gallery tour of inner Southeast and Northeast Portland hosted by Pedal Bike Tours offers visits to a handful of great locations in the Central Eastside Arts District’s First Friday art openings, and they’ll even let you borrow a bike, lights, and a helmet if you need one during the tour. Ride meets and ends downtown at 133 SW 2nd Ave at 6:00pm.

6:00pm: Vegan Dinner Bike Ride
A monthly meet-up and food crawl for vegans and the vi-curious, this group meets at Colonel Summers Park and rides, rain or shine, to explore Portland’s plentiful vegan eateries.

9:00pm: Cirque du Civil Rights
If Pedalpalooza is your year’s weekend, then January is the bike-fun hump day, and while it’s not a bike event per se, the Civil Liberties Defense Center‘s Cirque du Civil Rights will help you get your Sprockettes fix. Enjoy a wild night of entertainment at Dante’s featuring your favorite mini bike dance troupe and help support a good cause.

Sunday, January 9th

6:00pm-9:00pm: Citybikes Drop-in Wrench Night
Take advantage of local bicycle co-op Citybikes’ free drop-in night to use their tools, get advice, and keep your bike in tune during the harsh weather. This event takes place at the Citybikes Annex (734 SE Ankeny), come and go as you please.

Citybikes’ Wrench Night is on Sunday, not Saturday.

Oops! Thanks for catching that, Thomas. I’ll have Jonathan to make the change.

Thanks for the post.

I wanted to do an MLK ride this year for Jan 17, but I’ll be out of town. Does anyone else want to lead it, or is there interest in an MLK ride a week after the holiday?

See my biketemple post on it a year ago at http://biketemple.blogspot.com/2010/01/few-beleated-thoughts-for-mlk-holiday.html for my thoughts.

I’d love to do a ride on MLK — up from Tillamook St. to Marine Drive, then back down to Market St. It would be an eye-opener for transportation equality…

“If Pedalpalooza is your year’s weekend, then January is the bike-fun hump day…”

I’m still laughing at that. Bravo to the author of that imagery…
