As you may recall, back in spring we launched a partnership with 94.7fm to spread the word about bikes on the radio. Since then I’ve been hitting the airwaves daily with fun and informative 30-second messages. You can listen to all of them on our special BikePortland on the Radio page.
I just want to remind everyone that this partnership is alive and well.
We recorded four more spots earlier this week and I’m excited to announce two great new partners that have come on board to sponsor them: Clever Cycles and Nutcase Helmets.
For the next few months, after my 30-second message, these two local businesses will get 30 seconds of their own to share news about themselves (a.k.a. an advertisement). The spots run during AM drive-time and throughout the day. We’re also working with 94.7fm and our partners on other cool ways to spread the biking word.
This is all part of my grand scheme to reach out to folks that are beyond the typical biking bubble… and what better way to do it than through the radio while they’re driving around town or listening at work?
If you’d like to join this partnership (the more partners, the more times our messages get on the air!), get in touch with our sales manager J.R. via our handy contact form.
And now, fresh off production are the four most recent spots…

This is a GREAT idea! Getting the word out there to the large segment of people who might be enticed to bicycle is what is going to make it happen for the next influx of cyclists. Good choice of partners/station too.
Maybe spots that subtly highlight how safe cycling really is could be helpful? Something to address the “perceived safety” hurdle that still sticks in these potential rider’s minds…

Fun! I love the brief and factual format. Jonathan, you’re a great spokesman because you sound so calm and rational (e.g. “not one of them wacky lycra weirdos”). The only time I listen to the radio is when I’m driving, so hopefully this is a good way to reach people who are on the other side of the windshield…
A podcast would be cool, too. People will subscribe from all over the world. It could happen 😉
