Several familiar names will help develop five significant bikeway projects in North and Northeast Portland in the coming months. On Thursday (7/8), the City of Portland issued a letter of intent to award a contract for ‘Bikeway Project Development’ to Alta Planning & Design. The Request For Proposals was issued back in May.

On Friday, Portland Parks & Recreation announced their selection of non-profit Ethos, Inc. to occupy and manage the Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center (IFCC) building at 5340 N. Interstate Avenue.
As I reported back in April, Ethos founder Charles Lewis has partnered up with local author Joe “Metal Cowboy” Kurmaskie to include bike-related programs into their new offerings at the IFCC.

Stolen From: Bridgeport Condominium bike stand, off of Marshall, between NW 11th and 12th Aves.
Neighborhood: Pearl District
Owner: Sarah Lebo
OwnerEmail: Slim2m@yahoo.com
Description: Purple cruiser with brown leather covers on the handle bars and a light brown seat. It also had a metal rack in the back.
I bought this 2 days before leaving town, and upon returning saw that it was stolen. The lock was left and was cut. The bike was parked in the middle of my condominium complex, Bridgeport Condos — just off of Marshall between NW 11th and 12th there is a bike rack where 2 other bikes were stored. I rode it home from work on Wednesday, 7-7-10, and last saw it locked to the bike rack around 11pm that night. The next morning I flew to the east Coast so the theft occured sometime between 7-8-10 and 5:30am on 7-12-10 when I tried to get it to ride to work.

The Monday Roundup
(Photo: Tony Kyriacou/Rex Features)
Here’s the news that caught our eye this week:
– A 21-year old student from the U.K. is making waves on the web for his foldable bike with a unique theft-deterrent — it can bend around a pole and lock to itself.
– JetBlue knows how to please it’s bike-loving customers. To celebrate the Tour de France, they’ve decided to let bikes fly free (fee is usually $50) and they’re beaming coverage of the race from Versus via their seatback televisions.

Weekend Open Thread
Summer seems to have finally arrived for good and there’s a lot going on this weekend. Use this post to share your bike fun, plans, and adventures with the rest of us.
Many of you are yet to wake up after last night’s Midnight Mystery Ride, but once you do, consider rolling over to the Mississippi Ave Street Fair which happens today (Saturday) from 10am – 9pm. The Night Ride is also happening tonight. It’s an illuminated party on wheels that’s expected to attract about 2,000 people. They’ll be taking over the streets starting at 9pm.
