I can’t really keep up with all the bike events these days — but below is an attempt to share a few that have come to my attention.
By the way, in case you haven’t noticed, May is National Bike Month and it’s an ideal time to spread the word about biking to your friends and neighbors and prod them into showing up at an event to learn more or meet other newbies.
Here are some great events coming up in the next few days…
Tomorrow (5/14), the very bikey People’s Co-op (3029 SE 21st Ave) wants to thank Portlanders who go by bike — so they’re hosting Bike to Market Day. They’ll have free bike tune-ups, free workshops on how to repair your own bike, live music and free snacks.
_______
The BTA continues their work to make biking an option for families with their Getting Started in Family Bike Commuting workshops. The workshops discuss “the common challenges that families face when considering bike commuting. They are also a place for seasoned bicyclists to learn more about commuting with kids and share what they know about commuting with new riders.”
One workshop was held last night but two remain: Thursday, May 15 in Downtown Portland and May 22 in outer Southeast. Visit the BTA Blog for more details.
_______
Portland State University will also celebrate bikes on Wednesday (5/14). Roll over to the South Park Blocks for free bike adjustments by the PSU Bike Co-op, $10 bike helmets from Protect Your World, and a Bike/Truck Safety Demo from the folks at PDOT.
Also on Wednesday — in collaboration with the PSU Women’s Resource Center, and PDOT Transportation Options — PSU will host a Women’s Bike Clinic at 5pm at the PSU Urban Plaza Info Center (across from the bookstore).
But wait, there’s more!
Also on Wednesday at PSU, they’ll begin a weekly ride series called Creating Safe Routes to PSU (the brainchild of Bike Co-op staffer Drew Meisel). These rides are designed to evaluate the existing bike routes leading to PSU and form recommendations to be added into the Portland Platinum Bicycle Master Plan. Rides meet at 5:30pm in front of Millar Library (1875 SW Park).
On Friday (5/16) PSU’s bike research guru Jennifer Dill will give a presentation to share results of her Riding Behavior in PDX study from last year. The presentation is from 12-1:00 at the Urban Planning building room 204.
More info on PSU’s events this month can be found here.

\”I can’t really keep up with all the bike events these days\” – imagine bikeportland growing to a large full-time reporting staff and maybe nightly spot on the TV news… 😉
The Portland Office of Transportation is holding a number of events this month. We\’re also highlighting some of our friends\’ events as well. See it all here:

Jonathan… you need to staff up and expand your business. This is a clear case of demand that needs to be met! The community needs more of YOU!
Yeah, you need to expand! Eat more ice cream (I mean, Staccato Gelato)!
Thurs: Bike Brown Bag!
This month with folks from TriMet and the BTA holding a panel discussion on how bikes and busses can share our skinny streets.
Portlanders ride bikes *and* busses more than just about any other Americans so we\’ve all got to watch out for each other.
–> This Thurs, May 15, Noon – 1, Portland Building – 1120 SW 5th Ave (second floor).
Jonathan – Thanks for plug. We\’re going bike crazy here at PSU for the month of May! Please note that all the PSU events listed above are open to the general public, so please feel free to join in the fun. And if you\’re feeling really generous, you\’re welcome to volunteer… we can always use help spreading the word, helping new cyclists, and fitting people for helmets. Cheers! Ian
Perhaps a google calendar, or something similar would make it easier to keep up on events?
I concur with comments regarding more staff.
You guys are doing a great job though. Thank you for all you do!
I compiled a list of events and ongoing classes and workshops here:
