Job Description
Bicycle Safety Education (BSE) and Pedestrian Safety Education (PSE) Program Instructor (Portland – Metro Region)

The Bicycle & Pedestrian Safety Program Instructor will work with the Bicycle Transportation Alliance (BTA) to instruct our 10-hour, in-school bicycle safety curriculum and 4-hour pedestrian safety education curriculum. The program teaches youths ages 8-13 to be safe and predictable pedestrians and bicyclists, and promotes walking and bicycling as recreation and transportation. The program begins in a classroom setting and then progresses outside on-foot and bike.

Job Duties
-A highly qualified Bicycle/Pedestrian Safety Instructor will:
-Teach the programs to groups of 25-35 students ages 8-13
-Work with volunteers to assist with the program
-Assist with program logistics including transportation, maintenance and storage of equipment
-Document and compile work experiences

Qualifications
-A highly qualified Bicycle/Pedestrian Safety Instructor will:
-Be an experienced to an avid cyclist
-Have experience and enjoy working with preadolescent youths
-Have experience running education programs
-Be active, enthusiastic and responsible so to safely and effectively run a program from start to finish

Time Requirements
Dates: BTA is seeking to hire a Program Instructor to attend a paid instructors’ training March 21st through March 22nd. Scheduled work begins the first week of April. Applications will be accepted through February 22nd, 2008.

Hours
This position is seasonal, averaging about 20-25 hours per week in the spring and fall teaching seasons. The position requires the ability to work during normal school hours Monday through Friday.
