OMSI installs new bike parking

An attentive tipster has sent me some photos of new bike parking at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (which is directly accessible from the Eastbank Esplanade).

The photos were taken on Sunday, October 11th by Matt Picio:

Great to see these new racks, the only thing that would make them better is if they were installed closer to the main entrance.

Thanks for the photos Matt.

Yeah it would be nice if the racks were closer to the main entrance. It would also be nicer if they were COVERED. It does rain here rather frequently.

Have any other readers out there noticed how often bike racks are often located at the sides or back of a building? Usually a nice, quiet, low-traffic area exposed to the elements. Also convenient for a bike thief to ply their trade.

Almost worse than no bike racks– it\’s like an insult or something.

Yeah – at least they\’re better than the racks that used to be there, but I agree – it would be much better if they were in front (where there is plenty of space) and covered.

Still, any improvement is an improvement…

Does this photo show the NW corner of OMSI? If so the racks are currently leaning against the building and everything shown in the photo is dug up.

Hmm… I went back and looked at my original photos, and I think I was in error. I have to confess, I don\’t pay a lot of attention to that side of OMSI, and what I assumed were new racks because of the obvious concrete work may be the racks that were there all along. Looking at the original photos I took, it looks like they were cutting the concrete for rack removal.

So, I guess the real questions are – what the heck are they doing on the NW corner of OMSI, and what will the bike racks look like when they\’re done?

Perhaps this should be \”bike racks removed from OMSI during construction\”. I\’ll have a look at it again when I get back in town this weekend.
