I’m moving to Oakridge

MTB Oregon - Friday

On Alpine Trail.
(File photo)

Just finished my first day of riding down here at Mountain Bike Oregon in Oakridge.

The trails are out of this world and my tent is set up mere feet from the rushing of the green-blue Willamette River (and just a few yards from the beer garden).

I left Portland (very) early this morning, ate breakfast at camp, packed a lunch, then hopped on a yellow school bus full of other riders for 20 miles of some of the best singletrack I’ve ever ridden. We did a trail known as Alpine: about 20 miles, with 4,500 feet of descending on glorious, narrow, and perfectly maintained trails.

Just a quick post (I’m in Oakridge right now at MTB Oregon!) to share my photos from Last Thursday on Alberta.

It was a great night out there. Don’t have time to share more, but hopefully the slideshow below will tell part of the story.

Small Museums By Bike: Discovering Gresham

Met at Eastbank Esplanade at Hawthorne Bridge, Portland*

10:45 am (length – half-day adventure)
The 4th largest city in Oregon, Gresham, may seem like just a suburb of Portland, but they have a lot going on. Gresham’s historical downtown is delightful, famous bagels (Jazzys) a-wait you, and a famous girl (Miss America, 2002 Katie Harman) was born there. Also getting there is easy thanks to the Springwater Corridor, a flat bike-ped only path. Bring a sack lunch or money for bagels and we will enjoy exhibits at the Gresham History Museum (donations accepted), and take the Gresham history walk.

How far? About 16 miles one way leisurely pace to Gresham via the Springwater Corridor bike path. Option to take the Max train back to Portland (bring $2). Otherwise 32 miles roundtrip.
FREE (bring $ for lunch, museum donation, max train)
* If you live in far SE and would prefer to meet us on route, please contact me and we can arrange a meeting point.

Mystery Movie Ride

Event Website

Yes, for all of us who aren’t getting enough mystery rides or outdoor
screenings per month, you can rest easy….

The Mystery Movie Ride is a monthly sunset ride to a secret cinema
screening under the stars. The event takes place on the last Friday
of the month and meets at Friendship Circle, located at the West Side
of the Steel Bridge. For meet-up time, and more information check
movieride.net

July’s screening will include selected shorts, as well as two features
that highlight music. “Frida” chronicles the life of artist Frida
Kahlo, who channeled the pain of a crippling injury and her
tempestuous marriage into her work. The film is the latest by
acclaimed director Julie Taymor and features an Oscar award-winning
original score. In “True Stories,” David Byrne (lead singer of the
Talking Heads) writes, stars, and directs a mock documentary that is
part musical, part farce, and completely strange.

No free parking at OHSU

Parking full at OHSU

No free spaces near the tram.

Yesterday I had a meeting at the new OHSU Wellness Center (near the tram) and I was amazed at the number of bikes parked around the building.

They overflowed the available racks and were locked up to light posts, benches, anything that was metal. In the general area around the tram, I estimated well over 150 bikes.

The news comes from Oregon’s Bicycle Recreation Coordinator Iris Riggs. She says they have big plans for the track and want to hold statewide events and even an Oregon State Championships (Team Portland represent!).
