The seventh ride in PDOT’s monthly Bike Master Plan ride series will tackle the sometimes daunting routes in southwest Portland.

City bike coordinator Roger Geller says the focus of August’s ride will be on Terwilliger and Barbur and will look at some of the challenges that exists for cyclists in this area.

At the midway point, the ride will stop for a brief bite and discussion at a brewpub before heading back to downtown.

The ride is scheduled for August 7th. As usual, the ride meets at 5:15 at Terry Schrunk Plaza at SW 3rd & Madison. More information on these monthly rides can be found on PDOT’s Bike Master Plan website.

The SIXTH installment of our Pedal Potluck Picnic series will be happening TUESDAY, July 31st!

We’ll be leaving from FOOD FRONT CO-OP, 2375 NW THURMAN ST, around 6:30pm.

Bring a dish to share, if not, drop into the Co-op to pick up some vittles! We’ll ride 3-5 miles to a mystery picnic destination!

THIS RIDE IS RAIN OR SHINE. If it’s gonna be wet (which it shouldn’t since this is July), we’ll end up at a covered destination.

Oakridge base camp: The Trailhead

Mountain Bike Oregon

A welcome sight for mountain bikers.

If Oakridge had an unofficial base camp for mountain biking adventurers, it would be The Trailhead.

This aptly named cafe is right at the start of Main Street in Oakridge (which is actually a highway), and I couldn’t think of a better welcome to town.

MTB Oregon

The quality of riding in Oakridge can be illustrated in many ways. One of them is by the success of Mountain Bike Oregon.

The first MTB Oregon was held in 2005 and was attended by 38 hearty soles. Founder Randy Dreiling says there were more guides than riders. It didn’t take long for word of the event to spread. Word of mouth, propelled by popular Internet forums like MTBR.com saw the next year’s attendance balloon to a sellout crowd of 300 riders.

Riders came from 20 different states including as far away as Maine and Florida.
