BTA in City Hall, reports record-setting response
Michelle Poyourow and Scott Bricker of the BTA have spent most of the day in City Hall, working to find a solution to get our Bicycle Master Plan Update process back into the budget.
Michelle just updated their blog and reported that the Mayor’s office received a record amount of 300 unique phone calls and emails about this issue.
Update on City Hall’s response to funding cut
Responses from City Commissioners on the Mayor’s decision to not fund the Bicycle Master Plan Update process are trickling in.
Commissioner Randy Leonard says,
“I will do what I can to get the Bike Master Plan funding back in the budget…thanks for writing me.”
Matthew Grumm from Commissioner Dan Saltzman’s office says,

Police spent $20,000 on Critical Mass in ’06
The Portland Police Bureau released their Annual Traffic Activity Summary yesterday. The report details all the traffic violations and expenditures for 2006.
Among the stats was a page devoted to “Non-permitted Protest, Demonstration, Critical Mass”. It’s important to note not only how they categorize their presence at Critical Mass, but the amount of officers and cost to the city.
River City Bicycles gets Greenie Award
Bicycle Retailer and Industry News (BRAIN) reports that local retailer River City Bicycles has won the first-ever Greenie Award. The award was created by Specialized Bicycles as a way to, “acknowledge its retailers’ green-minded efforts and to motivate the public to reduce its global footprint.”
According to the story in BRAIN, River City won the award because of their,
“eco-conscious campaign to promote bicycling as a solution to climate change.”

Stolen Marin Mountain Bike
Silver Marin Mountain Bike, Cross terrane Tires one with a slime tube in the tire with bright green valve cap. Schimano components, 21 speed, soft tail Seet, black bike rack on back, black bell onn handelbars, possibly still has decals on it from the bike rental place in San Francisco that I bought it from 415 area code.

Did the Mayor make an innocent mistake?
To Portland’s bike insiders, savvy advocates, BTA members, and regular readers of this site, the Bicycle Master Plan Update process is nothing new. We’ve been getting excited about it for months. There have been brown bag discussions, monthly rides, steering committee meetings, a lot of coverage on this site, and so on.
But the same might not be true of the Mayor’s office.
