Satisfy your Shift curiousity tonight

Breakfast on the Bridges - October

Shift is a grassroots, all-volunteer group that promotes bike fun in Portland. If you ride a bike in this fair city, you’ve probably heard of them or taken part in one of their events (whether your realized it or not).

Shift is behind Breakfast on the Bridges, PedalPalooza, bike moves, and much more. They’re infectious brand of bike fun promotion has made them the gateway drug into the bike community for many Portland pedalers (including myself).

They have a general meeting tonight at Old Town Pizza (226 NW Davis) and if you’ve been curious about Shift this would be a great first meeting to come to.

We’ll be talking about the upcoming (in June) Pedalpalooza fest, eating some good food, and showing Old Town Pizza how much we appreciate their support of the bike community (you might have noticed their ad and special offer for BikePortland readers!).

Old Town Pizza (226 NW Davis)

Come find out how to get involved, volunteer for an event or make one happen yourself, bring up a bike issue that’s important to you, or just hang out and eat pizza. See you there!

…and for those of you who plan on attending the PDoT open house in Ladd’s Addition beforehand:

…I plan on hitting up both. No excuses for skipping the Shift meeting. Just check out the presentation, eat PDoT’s cookies (there will be cookies, right Roger?) and then follow the guy on the weird Danish bike to Old Town for some pizza and adhocracy.

SHIFTies…I will likely not be able to make the Pedal Palooza meeting tonight, as I have another public meeting to attend.

What events and Vancouver participation would you like to have this year?

Also – I would like to send a request out to other Vancouverites reading BikePortland to find a volunteer event manager/ coordinator for the Vancouver events this year, as I will have to cut back on my official participation duties this year due to work duty changes. Contact me if you are curious and interested in helping out. It is a blast every year.

Todd, sorry to hear you will not be the unstoppable juggernaut of Vancouver bike fun that we have become used to. I didn’t go to any Vancouver events but was very amused to hear about the “Serve Me or Arrest Me” ride to “drive-up” food establishments. The events with the zany themes definitely bring out more people and make the calendar look good. Hoping to again see bike-in movies, fashion shows, Mocktails, heritage tree rides, Kargo & Kids, I-5 Breakfast, etc. this year. Here is the calendar for last year’s Pedalpalooza, the Vancouver events are in blue:

“Welcome to Shift, gateway drug of the cycling community.” – I love it! That was definitely true in my case as well.

If you’re not already involved, please consider it – Shift is a great group, and full of warm, welcoming, fun-loving people who love to bike. What more can you ask for? (Well, maybe free beer – but that happens sometimes too)
