My 2004 Gary Fisher Marlin (17.5″) MTB was stolen a bike rack in front of REI in NW Portland around 3:30pm on Monday August 7th. It was silver and gray with a lime green Marzocchi Z4 flylight (Bomber) fork. It was locked with a kryptonite cable. Please contact me if you have any info.

The long awaited Bike Buddy program has just been officially launched by Southeast Uplift (SEUL), a non-profit coalition of southeast Portland neighborhoods.
According to SEUL’s Steve Hoyt,
“This program will provide a tremendous service to tentative, less confident bicyclists by allowing them to benefit from the vast resources of Portland’s experienced bicycling population.”
“Modeled after similar programs in Seattle, the Bike Buddy Program will match experienced bicyclists with people who would like to bike more but would like one-on-one guidance. Bike Buddies will learn the best routes around town, the safest ways to cross the river, and other tips to make riding enjoyable, easy, and safe.”

Bike was unlocked next to another unlocked red mountain bike
Reported to Portland Police. No questions asked for return.
My boy is heartbroken as this was his only bike and I cannot afford to replace.

At the end of September, the Community Cycling Center (CCC) will expand its reach far beyond their Northeast Portland headquarters when they send 450 bikes, wheels, tubes and other parts to a village in Ghana, Africa.
The CCC is partnering with the Village Bicycle Project (VBP), a non-profit that works to improve access to bikes in Africa through bike donations, teaching bike maintenance, and providing tools and training.
Well known PSU professor Alon Raab was in a crash with a motor vehicle while riding his bicycle to class yesterday.
According to a spokesperson at the Department of Sociology, Raab suffered a broken collarbone and is expected to return to class tomorrow.
Ironically, Raab is a dedicated enthusiast of bicycle culture and the class he is currently teaching is called The Sociology of the Bicycle, a survey and discussion of Portland’s bike scene.
Yesterday I joined 800 fellow Portland cyclists and 100 gallons of ice-cream for the first-ever Hottest Day of the Year Ride.
It started with riders of all ages staging at the Lucky Lab brewpub in Northwest Portland.
I was on my way to my car tonight to go race at the track and when I got
to my car someone had broken into it (smashed the window with a piece
of concrete), opened the trunk and stole my track bike (Custom Silver
Co-Motion TT with blue panels, a Zipp disc and FSA RD-488 front
wheel)!!
So please keep an eye out and ears peeled for any info about it.; i.e.
some crackhead trying to sell a fancy bike for $200, and let me or the
police know. There is a police report # – 06-325898.

Raleigh Bicycles (based in Kent, WA) will be shooting their 2007 catalog in and around Portland this weekend. The catalog is intended to be a “natural extension” of their ’06 edition which was set entirely in Seattle.
According to their marketing director Reed Pike, besides a visit to the Alpenrose Velodrome to photograph their Rush Hour model, official locations and subjects are still being worked out.

Portland’s bikey brain trust will have a significant presence at this year’s Pro Walk/Pro Bike conference which is being held from September 5-8 in Madison, Wisconsin.
The international conference—which was held in Portland in 1994—is considered the most important event of it’s kind and according to BikeWalk.org it attracts more than 600 bicycle and pedestrian program specialists, advocates, and government leaders committed to improving conditions for bicycling and walking.
In response to the following comments made by the traffic court judge in the Ayla Holland/fixed-gear trial,
“If your client had a stick she could rub against her tire, you’d have a case.”

They are also holding a stick-braking competition.
