Want Portland-made bike panniers? Take your pick at BikeCraft

We’ve already shared some of the cool bike-part jewelry you’ll find at BikeCraft IV.
Today, we’ll share a bit of info and photos from not one, not two, but three(!) Portland artisans who will offer up their handmade bike panniers for sale at the event.
The first is Rebecca Pearcy of Queen Bee Creations. I first mentioned she was dipping her toes in the pannier waters back in March. The response to that story was so positive, Rebecca has decided to make them a regular part of her successful line of handbags and wallets.
Rebecca won’t offer them to the general public until February 2009, but she’s decided to debut them and offer several pairs for sale at BikeCraft!

Another pannier maker coming to BikeCraft is Dave Stoops of Black Star Bags. From his shop in Northeast Portland, Dave puts together some very fine products. I have used (and loved) one of his fanny packs for a long time and he’s also known for his custom messenger bags.
For his panniers, Dave uses the innovative and durable mounting hardware from legendary bag maker Arkel Overdesigns. Dave will also do custom designs and transfer your artwork onto his bags.
And last but not least is the wonderful work of Ed Skaug. Ed makes very unique panniers from reused, industrial strength plastic bags, bike inner tubes and duct tape. He tells us there are several colors and “themes” available, such as the ones below he calls “the yellow jacket”.
Unfortunately, Elias Grey of Lemolo Bags can’t make BikeCraft this year. He’s another Portland-based bag and pannier maker with some serious skills.
You’ve got to love a city where we have such fantastic, locally-made options. Come to BikeCraft to see them in person.

I met Dave Stoops at last year's BikeCraft and ended up getting a pannier set from him. They're excellent -- nice-looking and very durable. I use them all the time for shopping and hauling stuff around and they still look almost new. Plus he has a great selection of colors and designs, and his prices are very reasonable.

Wow if unique is one of a kind, then 'very unique' must be just like that, and then some!
