Veer will be shown at the
Victoria Film Fest in February.

At the premiere of Veer last week, producer/director Greg Fredette shared some good news with the sold-out crowd; the film has been accepted for screening at the Victoria International Film Festival.

Veer is a feature-length documentary that focuses on several aspects of Portland’s dynamic bike culture.

Fredette says he and the Veer crew are, “pretty excited,” by the Victoria invite because “it’s a respected festival.” He adds that many of the documentaries shown at Victoria last year did “very well” in distribution and were picked up by major cable movie channels like Showtime and others.

Fredette is also looking forward to the Victoria festival because he hopes its west coast location means that fans from Portland and Vancouver BC will show up and support the film. This is the first festival to accept Veer. Fredette has submitted the film to several other festivals with the hopes of getting it noticed and landing a distribution deal.

I made it out to the premier showing. I'd like to encourage everyone to try to make it to a showing when it makes it into various venues. It encompasses a much broader look at the Portland cycling community than I had expected. There were rounds of applause throughout the showing and everyone I talked to found it to be better than their expectations. I wish drivers could watch it to understand who we are and appreciate where we are trying to take the cycling community in the future.
