Introducing the BikePortland Bookstore

It’s time to get smart, and we don’t just mean using hand signals and fighting traffic tickets.
Making headway against 50 plus years of car-centric policies, planning, and culture is no easy task. We need to educate ourselves. The more we know the better we’ll be able to make the case for bikes, whether we’re talking about intersection design, the history of sprawl, or when to take the lane.

In the spirit of, “To inform and inspire”, we’ve created the BikePortland Bookstore. This is a new section of the site where you can learn about and purchase a carefully chosen selection of books on a variety of topics.
And the best part? When you buy anything from Powell’s (not just the stuff we’ve selected) using our super-secret partnership link a percentage of the purchase price goes directly to BikePortland.org so we can sustain and improve the stories and features we offer.
You can order books to be shipped to you — or better yet, if you are local, you can pick them up by bike! Just choose the “In-Store Pickup” option at checkout to have the books held for you at any Powell’s location.
Maybe you’re looking for a literate, all-encompassing book that gives you the tools you need to navigate the roadway, the culture, and the politics of bicycling — look no further, The The Art of Cycling is the definitive guide.

Pat, that's a good question -- we have big plans for the bookstore which would involve each book having its own page, with comments enabled. So yes, your reviews coming soon!

I think this is a fantastic idea, and a long time coming - I will offer up the best titles I can suggest (not just my own). And I want readers of this most excellent blog to know that I fully support you purchasing my books through jonathan's site and supporting bikeportland and powells. To of my favorite institutions. BTW The latest book, Mud, Sweat and Gears - will be out this spring. PS. One of my hopes is that someday soon we'll see a book by Jonathan M about the bike culture of our fair city. And that it will be sold through my site, his site... everywhere.
