Had a beautiful quiet morning cruise from SE to PSU to work at farmer's market. The ride home was significantly sweatier, but at this point, I welcome the sweatiness. What an amazing day! Tomorrow I ride out to Hillsdale from SE for the first time, I'm a little scared of that incline.

Ran errands in North Portland, then over to Little Red Bike Cafe for breakfast, then down Greeley to Interstate to downtown to go to work for a few hours. Tried to conquer the hill up to OHSU and failed, having to get off and walk. :P Beautiful day for riding!!

Jonathan, a sincere thanks for including MTB events and info on your site. As bike crazy as our city is, mountain biking is still a pretty neglected aspect of pedal powered fun in most cycling circles within the city.

Maybe it has to do with the severe lack of trails here...but to me it's important to make people aware that there is a whole other type of cycling out there.

Ah, bliss. Went through Beaverton, Sherwood, Newberg, LaFayette and up to Carlton and home. 73 miles, perfect weather. A little too much traffic for my taste, but it was nice to get in a big ride before RTB in a few weeks. Might go to Salem, which would be about 55 miles, tomorrow.

We are going to dust off our tandem and spin around Portland on the Pinot Pedal tomorrow.
Then we'll hang out with our pup at the end of the ride block party drinking wine, nibbling treats, and strutting to the Elevators.

Today my bike took me to a place where opportunity resides. A shared love of these glorious little machines was likely the catalyst. The unrelenting magnanimous nature of J, and especially T, truly and profoundly affected the course of my own weekend, hopefully only the beginning.

What a couple of fellas. Proud to call y'all my Portland neighbors. Somehow Thank You just doesn't seem to even start to cover it. Moreover your kindness leaves me speechless right when I need those words the most. What an absolutely astounding little city we call home, eh all?

Rode 10 miles to the medical place to have my CPAP machine (sleep apnia) adjusted; the fellow there was amazed that I rode a bike for something like this.

Rode 11 miles back home, stopping at Bike Gallary to get some tubes; noticing that gas is now at $3.75 at at least one station. It may hit 4 before the first week of May is over. . .

Spent the rest of the day making new bicycing shorts. . .

I rode the Oregon Randonneurs' Three Capes 300K - a loop that stared in Forest Grove, out to Tillamook via Hwy 6, down the coast to Pacific City and back to throug wine country to FG. It was my longest ride to date on the new Sweetpea and the bike performed gloriously, especially those dual headlights . . . .

I got back on my bike after 2 1/2 months off while healing from a broken leg and torn ligaments from a skiing accident. It was great - scary, but fun! I only went down the block for some coffee, but it felt so good! I can't wait to get back into my normal biking routine.

Drove down to Salem yesterday with the family for the AgFest.

This morning I was at a design conference where the topic of a workshop was better bike parking and traffic calming on emergency routes. .

Right now I'm watching the sprockettes practice before their performance at the big Pinot Pedal block party!

Come on down to Flanders and nw 16th and join us!

Cruised the bluff with quinn one Saturday - Sunshine feels so good. Pedaled the esplande, springwater through sellwood to oak grove with my youngest in the trailer and Beth drafting, when I let her. We were mapping out her work commute for a teaching assignment through June. Glorious to be pedaling the corridor before 9am on a Sunday morning.

So, the husband broke his leg in a bicycle accident almost a year ago, and hasn't been on a bike since then. It's been a very long recovery, still only about 80% back to normal. But today...we rode from 50th/Hawthorne all the way downtown and back, and his knee was doing great! Not too many miles, especially compared to what we're used to, but it was so great to finally be back on our bikes and out in the sunshine.

This summer is going to be awesome. Last summer was our first here in Portland, and he was confined to a wheelchair, so it'll be like a whole new world :)

Rode to Multnomah Falls and back on Saturday - 67 miles.

Drove a car on Sunday as SAG for Pinot Pedal. Then rode 1 mile with a friend who just picked out a new touring bike. Awesome!

Multnomah Falls by bike with a great crew. then the Moonrise Film Festival, all by bike.

Sunday, the Pinot Pedal, the purchase of a new touring bike (thanks, Matt and Brad!), then biked out far and farther via Springwater to Pip's going away (sniff).
spent almost all weekend on my bicicleta!

It was a maintenance and errands weekend. Fun scary errands that involved spending a LOT of money on bike equipment. Rode to BG for a refit then to REI for my 'Reach the Beach' ride packet.

I was disappointed to learn that pitching a tent at the starting line the night before RTB is not a possibility. Apparently parking for 1000 cars is available though. Guess I'll be riding and Maxing from Gresham at 5AM.

I was also hoping to find some information about riding home from RTB. I didn't learn anything at the REI party or online. I think I'll start a thread on the forum and see what ideas people have. I'd like to take a leisure day on Sunday, overnight at the beach then ride home Monday on Cecil's 3 Cape brevet route from Tillamook to Forest Grove.

And a first for me... I recognized a bike and connected it to a person. As I was unhooking at REI, I suddenly noticed I was next to a Sweetpea beauty. That's impossible to miss so I met Cecil. Cecil sets the bar for me on bikejournal.com. I've never achieved her heights.

Interestingly enough, I think I saw the builder of Cecil's bike earlier today at Bike Gallery. Miss Ramsland is another person I have never met, but is familiar from bikeportland and the Sweetpea site... or maybe it wasn't her.

    So there's my bike fun.

Pinot Pedal. Got seriously lost ( I knew where I was, just didn't know where the route was).
Seriously, a very poorly marked course. I ended up coming all the way back down interstate from the Columbia slough. Ran into several other groups of bikers who had lost the route.
I ended up in third place though, which doesn't happen often. I think i must have cut some pretty major chunks out.

Road with the Oregon Randonneurs on Saturday. 187 miles in 16 hours 7 minutes. Then, while riding the last bit up Belmont, I was hit in the neck with a liquid filled latex glove thrown out the window of a passing vehicle.

Coming back from the beach I recommend the route that goes up to Beaver, and then cuts over to the Yamhill/ Carlton area. It is Blaine Road out of Beaver, and turns into the Nestucca River Road, then again turns into Meadowlake.

While there is a strecteh of manageable gravel, most of the roads are butter smooth, the ride is fun, auto traffic is low, and the views are amazing.

I got the entire family out to the Spring Water Corridor on Saturday. It was so beautiful. My wife hasn't been feeling so well and so this was the first time that we all got to get on our bikes together. It was absolute BLISS!! I ran my dog a little too hard and so I had to put her in the trailer with our little 15 month old girl for the last part of the trail. The dogs pads were starting to split and get tore up. But the baby, doggie & mommie all loved it very much. We rode out to Gresham and played & ate in the park. It was a nice piece of heaven for me to see the whole family on their bikes.

:( Sinus infection that's turned into a really sore throat and scratchy dry cough means that I got to do absolutely no bike riding this weekend.

Got a lot of laundry done, though. Bought some new bike shorts, shopped around for a new sports bra. Drank lots of hot honey and lemon. Watched tv.

I was on my bike all weekend.

Friday night was the Oregon League of Conservation Voters annual dinner. We got all gussied up and rode our tandem down to the Convention Center. I love wearing a dress and heels and seeing all the smiles we generate. We're going to do it more - although I wish someone would make a helmet that has some semblance of fashion sense.

Woke up early on Saturday for a toodle down to the farmer's market. Got lots of smiles for the tree peony poking out of the pannier.

Then we broke out the road bikes for a big ride up council crest through the cemetary. Got up early again on Sunday for *another* ride with a couple of friends up to St Johns. Had a great look of the river from the UP campus.

Then I worked in my garden. Couldn't have been a better weekend.

Got to the Pinot Pedal a few minutes late and missed the pack. Picked up the wrong instructions but we caught up with people with the route. Weather was perfect for riding. Ended up cycling throught neighborhoods we'd never seen in Portland and enjoyed looking at all of the different houses. Met the Community Cycling Center's cat that was throughly enjoying the weather. Led some riders apparently up the wrong side of the river back to the Steel bridge over an interesting path we'ed never been on. Saw some interesting bicycle stencils on the bridge, found the Pinot Pedal signs again and wandered on back to the party for good wine, food and music. Throughly enjoyed the Sprocket's performance and think Chris's daughter definitely has a future in dance.
