Seeing signs of PDOT’s visibility campaign

As promised as part of PDOT’s new “See and Be Seen” effort, signs for the campaign are popping up around town on TriMet bus stops and bus benches.

I noticed these out in the Portsmouth neighborhood in North Portland this morning (I’ve also seen them off of Powell Blvd. in Southeast Portland).

The signs look great and it’s exciting to see this part of the campaign come to fruition.

In other bike light news, Washington is the latest state to adopt the “Get Lit” program which was initially created in Portland by citizen activist Jeff Bernards. The Washington program is being spearheaded Kent Peterson, who is the Commuting Program Director for the Bicycle Alliance of Washington. Read more about his Get Lit Washington efforts on his blog.

Missoula, Montana and Sacramento, California have also recently announced Get Lit style light giveaway programs.

Thanks for the full color glossies!

To all who just can’t get lit enough Options has coupons available for purchasing lights and reflective gear from many fine shops around town. Go to this site to request: http://www.portlandonline.com/transportation/index.cfm?c=34811&a=141597

Or, come to the next See & Be Seen event – next Wednesday (Jan. 17th), 11:30 – 1:30 at PSU, between Smith Center and Cramer Hall. We’ll have coupons and beautiful See & Be Seen posters that you can use to brighten your bike’s very own bedroom.

I’ll be seeing you!

I would rather see sign that say “START SEEING BIKES” directed at car drivers. Yes, we should have lights, but they should be able to see what is in front of them.
