In case you're still searching for the perfect gift for the bike lover in your life, here are some awesome, locally-made, bikey gift ideas.

BikePortland.org Postcard Set

[One of five postcards
in my set.]

Spread the beauty of bikes in Portland with one of my postcard sets. Each set comes with five postcards that have been printed on high-quality, 4X6 card stock. I tie each set with an old innertube and include a free, "If you were riding, you'd be happy by now." sticker. These cards are great for correspondence or for framing and your purchase helps support BikePortland.org. Just $5 (free shipping) in the BikePortland Store.

Shaun Deller "Recyclist" cap
Shaun Deller is so-hot-right-now. Everybody is talking about this guy's hats and I've never had an article of clothing get more compliments. Made in his home sewing studio in Northeast Portland, Shaun scours thrift stores for fabric that he sews into several stylish types of hats for guys and gals. Learn more and order them from ShaunDeller.com.

Smooch not included ;-).]

Historic Portland Bike Map (c.1896)
Long before those motorized steel boxes took over our streets, Portland was ruled by bikes. This amazing map (photos here) was created in 1896 and shows a detailed bikeway network, offers pointers for cyclists, and has some fun old advertisements (who knew Meier and Frank used to sell bike clothing?!). At only $5 a piece, they're a great gift. Purchase it from the BTA Gear store.

2007 Sprockettes Calendar
That mini-bike dance team we all know and love, The Sprockettes are back with their 2nd annual calendar. This year's edition features some great photographs of the ladies in action and all proceeds support their work. It's just $10 (includes shipping) and you can buy it via PayPal in the BikePortland Store.

Bike Haiku Stationary - Red Bat Press

BikeCraft II
[Bike Haiku Stationary
from Red Bat Press]

Printmaker Carye Bye (Ms. Red Bat), has really outdone herself with her new Bike Haiku Stationary. Printed in her downtown Portland studio, the $10 set contains 20 letterpressed sheets, 4 haikus, and 10 envelopes. Here's one I love:

    "tires swing a sweet song
    asphalt played like a cello
    traction symphony"

Contact Carye if you're interested.

Support your local bike community and give the gift of cycling to all the bike lovers on your list.

The bike haikus by the way are from the Peninsula Park Commons co-housing bike parking (on art tiles) in north portland -written by various shifty bike folk.

I myself just got a deller hat and feel so bikey hip.
