Update on stage race funding request

Today at City Council, Commissioner Sam Adams proposed an amendment to the city budget that would allocate $100,000 in seed money for a "Tour de Portland" style stage race.
This is much less than the amount initially requested by a sub-committee of the fledgling Oregon Bicycle Business Association.
According to a source in Adams' office, he decided to request a substantially lower amount to increase the likelihood of getting any funding at all (I guess a few million bucks for a bike race was a bit overzealous...but hey, there was no harm in asking).
The amendment (including the $100,000) will now continue to the next phase of the budget process and Mayor Potter will ultimately decide its fate in the next few months.

they should take that $100,000 and put it towards building the proposed indoor velodrome instead...
RecommendedOr a nice homeless shelter.

RecommendedOr maybe a nice homeless shelter with a velodrome in it. You could ride brakeless there with no fines and have a place to sleep courtesy of the City. That would really stick it to The Man.
