Tomorrow at the Bagdad Theater is the free Film Celebration of Portland Transportation. The event runs from 2-4pm and it promises to be a great show. There will be 11 short, locally made films and talks from various transportation insiders, including Chris Smith from Portland Transport and Scott Cohen from Portland State University who will speak about the history of bicycles in Portland.

Portlander starts Bakfiets Blog

Northeast Portland resident Richard Wilson is on a Dutch bike kick. Like myself, he’s especially smitten with cargo bikes, or “bakfiets.”

In fact, he likes them so much, he’s started a Bakfiets blog that he hopes will become the, “…go-to resource for bakfiets and to stimulate serious interest in the bike as a solution for the US market.”

Richard’s motivation is not just from bike lust, he’s also expecting his second child next month and he’s looking forward to blogging about how well babies and bakfiets mix.

Spooky bike fun begins tonight

If you like to mix bikes into your Halloween festivities, you’ll have plenty of options this weekend.

Tonight there are two big group rides that will give you a chance to dress up and ride with other spooky cyclists. There’s the traditional Critical Mass ride that leaves from the North Park Blocks (Burnside & Couch) and the People’s Ride, which is a new ride that leaves from Ladd’s Circle Park (SE Harrison & 16th, event flyer here). Time to meet for both rides is 5:30 and they’re expected to meet up with each other at some point.
