BTA on the move

After a long search, the BTA has finally found a new home.

Their current digs (at SW 12th and Morrison) are cozy but cramped and the new space (at 1979 SW 5th) will give the growing BTA staff, “more space, private offices and better conference and work areas.”

And, in true Portland fashion, they’re hoping to move most of their stuff via bike power. According to director Evan Manvel,

“We’ll welcome all and any help by Bike Movers on Thursday, August 24, from 3 to 8pm…we’d love to get most of our office moved by bike. We’ve got lots of files and books and bookcases, office chairs, etc. that can easily be moved by bike.”

The new location is close to Portland State University and could mean we might see more collaboration and synergy between the BTA and PSU’s transportation studies programs, students, and staff.

Plans for an open house celebration are set for September 27th from 5-7pm.

The BTA has begged forgiveness if they end up moving their conference tables by petrol-power. Evan wrote me and described them as being about the width of a traffic lane, and 9 feet long, with legs that don't unbolt from the table. He said that the BTA nearly broke an elevator moving them before.

Anyone want to attempt these? It's a very short-distance move.
