Portland United Mountain Pedalers (PUMP) board member Roger Louton sees a golden opportunity to push for more singletrack mountain biking trails in Portland.

He just returned home from the IMBA World Mountain Bike Conference where he heard the Executive Director of the League of American Bicyclists Andy Clarke, announce some exciting news: the availability of singletrack mountain bike trails is now a key criteria to achieve Platinum status.

BTA seeks ideas, inspiration in series of summer trips

Buffered Bike Lane with a bike symbol and arrow pointing forward

Next week, two BTA staffers and one “super-intern” will head South on a reconaissance mission to California. Their top-secret mission is to observe and glean ideas from other innovative and bike-friendly cities.

First, they’ll visit Davis to “see what Platinum looks and feels like”. Then they’ll continue south down to Berkeley to check out their approach to bicycle boulevards. The BTA is in the midst of a campaign to learn about and implement bicycle boulevards here in Portland.

Jessica Roberts will be one of the staffers on the trip:

Stolen: Trek 820

I had my 2 day old blue and silver Trek 820 bike stolen right in front of the 24 Hour Fitness at the Beaverton Round at the Beaverton Central Max Stop. I had just bought it 2 days prior and locked it up with a cable lock. Someone must have cut the lock and took the bike. It is a 21 speed and a 19.5″ frame. Serial # on my bike was C35G5706 and also has a yellow “Bike Gallery” (where I purchased the bike) sticker down by the pedals. Please e-mail me if you have any information on my bike, or call me on my cell at (503) 349-8582. Thanks.

Hey my bike just got stolen out of my yard in West Moreland last night, friday june 23rd. It is an 54-56cm Allez Specialized bike, with a carbon fork, and I think it has a carbon frame. It was orginally black matte body with handle tape that had red and white stripes and blue stars. It has clip pedals, one of which is broken. It does not have the original carbon seat post. If anyone finds this bike please call (503) 784-8932.

Heat no match for Bike Fair fun

Mult. County Bike Fair!

I can’t think of a more fitting end to Pedalpalooza than thousands of people coming together at Saturday’s Multnomah County Bike Fair at Colonel Summers Park. At the peak of the day, fair organizers counted 1250 bicycles scattered throughout the park!

Despite a sweltering sun the competitions rocked and all the booths were packed with smiling faces. Nearly all of Portland’s bikey groups were represented; from the Belligerantes (an all-Schwinn bicycle gang) to the Zoobombers.
