— Big news in Richmond Virginia. That city has been selected to host the 2015 UCI World Championships Road Race. That’s a very big deal. Organizers estimate the event will generate about $135 million for the state.
— In Japan, a man is walking the streets is ringing a bike bell to see how people react. “The results are near Pavlovian, because as soon as the people hear the bell, they instinctively move out of the way.” There’s even a video.

Description: This is a very old road bike with red chipping paint, it is also a super tall bike. The bike has a U Lock attached to the handle bars, which are bare metal (not taped). There is a light on the front handle bars and a rear light as well.
Tony Pereira of Portland-based Pereira Cycles took home top honors for the 2011 Oregon Manifest Constructor’s Design Challenge. The event, which was a competition to design and build the “Ultimate modern utility bike,” concluded today with a grueling “Field Test” competition.

The Portland Police Bureau are reporting that a collision occurred last night on the Hawthorne Bridge.
32-year-old Mark Landers was operating a motorcycle (with passenger Jocelyn Shirley) and was headed westbound when he lost control and struck the curb just before the start of the bridge. His motorcycle then jumped the curb and skidded onto the bike path, striking 21-year-old Ian Trout who was riding his bike westbound.
Trout and the passenger on the motorcycle were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
