Get ready to show off your knowledge of the city while displaying your fold-and-roll skills — the Brompton Urban Challenge is coming to Portland!
We’ve partnered up with Brompton, Ortlieb and Clever Cycles to organize a fun event for Brompton lovers of all stripes. And guess what? Proceeds from the event will benefit BikePortland.org!
This is the 2nd season of the Brompton Urban Challenge. Last year 15 cities around the world hosted an event including: Budapest, Milan, Paris, and Amsterdam. This season there are 16 Challenges around the world and this is the first year it has come to Portland (where Brompton has its USA headquarters, by the way).
We’re still planning the event and can’t wait to share more with you. Here are the details so far (taken from the official event registration page):
— The Brompton Urban Challenge (BUCPDX) is a photo-based scavenger hunt on two wheels. Participants will spend the day exploring Portland, interpreting clues and completing challenges while uploading their crafty and clever feats to social media. This is not a race! We’re here to have fun and build community.

— Ortlieb has kindly and generously given support to BUCPDX, so look forward to fantastic waterproof prizes at the end of the road.
— Participants can either register as a team or will be placed into a team on the day of the event. The minimum team size is two participants, and the maximum team size is four participants. It’s $25 per person to register and all profits go to BikePortland.org.
— All bikes are welcome, but there must be at least one Brompton bicycle per team. Clever Cycles has a limited number of Brompton bicycles available to rent at a 50% discount, so make sure to reserve now via CleverCycles.com if you don’t already have one. Use the code “BUCPDX” when you reserve you bike to get the discount.
— Participants should have access to Twitter or Instagram on their phones – the best and most creative photos of the day will be awarded with prizes from our sponsors. Thank you Ortlieb!
Last August about 75 people competed in the New York City edition of the Challenge. Check out the video below to see how it went down:
On the day of the event we’ll start things off with coffee and donuts at Clever Cycles which is also where we’ll host the after-party with prizes and drinks (in an official 2016 Brompton Urban Challenge pint glass of course).
We need volunteers to really make this thing fly… So if you’re interested please get in touch.
Grab your Bromptons (or rent one, all bikes are welcome), get signed up, and stay tuned for more details!

awesome! i hope hope one of the tasks is to carry a brompton in your front loader which is the same matching color because i would totally rock that and yes it was on purpose 🙂
That’s a cool idea. And please feel free to share more… we are putting the details of the scavenger hunt together now. Matter of fact… you interested in volunteering Kiel? 😉
Team CANDY ASS LLAMAS is in.
This is going to be fun!
Just want to remind everyone that all bikes are welcome! You don’t have to be a Bromptoneer to enter. Each team must have at least one Brompton and Clever has many of them to rent if needed.
