Wednesday Video Roundup: commuter bike makeovers, a bike wheel on a car, and more

Welcome to the last video roundup of 2015! Our first video has a cute puppy in it, because puppies are awesome. A rider found this puppy while cycling near Houston Texas, then transported the puppy home to save it. His neighbor later adopted the puppy.

This video shows girls in mountain biking. NICA is the high school mountain biking league, promoted by Gary Fisher (among others). It’s a great introductory video. NICA is blossoming, which is good for all of us.

Next, this video shows some commuter cycles getting a “makeover” during the day. I know many people wouldn’t want a stranger to touch their bike, but notice these are low-end bikes, and it’s a nice gesture. Also notice how dark it is at 4:20pm; London is farther north than us, it’s even farther north than Vancouver BC.

Here’s our weekly dose of Vittorio Brumotti- doing a better job going up boulders on a road bike than I could do on foot. Bonus Brumotti: in Santa Monica (though it looks like Venice).

Mike Cotty’s Col Collective videos are beautiful. The new video is Grossglockner (Großglockner) in Austria. In this new ‘season’ of Col Collective, Mike is leaving the classic Alps climbs. I love the TdF climbs but it’s nice to see new territory. Cotty is also interesting because he stands through all of his climb.

Since Christmas was this last week, it’s mandatory to include at least one video. Here are some santas hooning on bikes in Italy. It feels like playing a first-person wheelie video game.

Remember the Boncho from last week? Clever Cycles has a more practical overview of ponchos/rain capes. The video shows their two brands. Clever also put up a new video showing the Brompton product line.

We’re a little light on videos this week, so here’s an entertaining one from the archives. Will a bicycle tire hold the weight of a car?

My personal video for the week is a Boxing Day ride up along Skyline and Council Crest. There are a lot of leaves, and 53rd Ave has a lot of stray limbs.

Honorable mentions: GCN’s How To Ride In A Headwind How To Replace A Broken Spoke (surprisingly, not “take it to Sugar”), last year’s “Carol of the Spokes”, PDW’s holiday video, and a promotional video for Urban Revolutions, guide to cycling for women.

Inclusion criteria: If I’ve missed something, post it in the comments! I prefer videos published in the last week or so. Note if there’s a specific point in a long video that is worth highlighting. Also note if there is colorful language. When it gets to spring, I will delay videos containing pro racing spoilers.

I saw the bike wheel on a car video a while back on a wheel-building forum.

I saw it a while back too and wondered what’s the difference between that and a bicycle wheel on a madsen?

Awesome. Thank you to that cyclist who saved that sweet little puppy. Some people are so heartless to abandon animals that way. It doesn’t take much effort to find an animal shelter, at least.

Hey, thanks for featuring the rain cape video. I’m in the market, and for some reason, I’d forgotten that Clever Cycles sells stuff like that.
