Description: This is a women’s 1967 Schwinn Collegiate. This bike is in fairly pristine condition. It has almost entirely original parts. A front basket was addition, but it has all the original chrome fenders, handlebars, lights with generator. It was U-locked to a rail through the tire and frame. The thief sawed through the rail to get the bike, but would not be able to ride it away (since the U-lock would keep the wheel from turning). Please help me find it!
I don’t have proof of ownership, but my boyfriend has its "mate". We bought the bikes as a pair and the serial numbers are very close (but I can’t remember what the actual number is).

Black women ride in D.C. (and Portland too)

The Lifestyle section of the Washington Post carried a story yesterday titled, Black women take their place in D.C.’s bike lanes. The article touches on the complex intersection of race, gentrification, and bike infrastructure — issues Portland grapples with too.
How do you know you live in a bike city? Look at the t-shirts
How do you know you live in a bike city? One of the many ways is to look at the inspiration behind the objects created by people who live there. In the case of Portland, many local arts, crafts and products are inspired by bicycles (that’s what spurred me to do BikeCraft years ago).
Case in point was the Mississippi Street Fair on Saturday.
As I walked the busting street (it was packed!), I couldn’t help but notice the number of bike t-shirts being sold by vendors. Check out the selection below (keep in mind, this wasn’t even a bike-specific event. It just exemplifies the extent that bicycles permeate Portland culture)…
Mica responds to “attacks” on reauthorization proposal
This just in….
Chairman Mica Statement on Democrat Attacks on Reauthorization Proposal
Washington, DC – Transportation Committee Chairman John L. Mica (R-FL) released the following statement in response to Democrat attacks on an outline presented last week by Committee leaders to reauthorize federal transportation programs:
“It is disappointing and sad that some Democrats have launched a personal and partisan attack on the Republican proposal for a six-year transportation reauthorization.
“The outline responsibly presents how we can dramatically leverage Highway Trust Fund dollars within the current spending rules and restrictions imposed by the House-adopted budget.
“Nearly every proposal detailed in the preliminary outline was adopted with input gathered during bipartisan hearings and meetings across the country. The Committee conducted an unprecedented number of nationwide listening sessions, including hearings in the Ranking Member’s district and a bicameral, bipartisan hearing in Los Angeles, not to mention numerous hearings in our nation’s capital.
“Anyone who takes time to evaluate the proposals outlined will realize that they can ensure that even more transportation projects will move forward, the Trust Fund will be preserved, and significant job creation over a six-year period will result.
“It is disappointing that some have taken such an unproductive approach to such an important matter, even before participating in preparing final draft language to present as a committee.
“Even though there may be disagreement at this time, for the sake of our nation we must act in a positive manner to move this legislation forward as soon as possible.”

The Monday Roundup
“Who said riding a bike had to be a white thing?”
Here’s the bike news from around the world that caught my eye this week:
– As LA braces for the “Carmageddon” freeway closure next weekend, Santa Monica lifeguards have a different kind of traffic complaint — bumper-to-bumper bike traffic on the beachfront path.
– The true indicator of a bicycle-friendly city? It might be a bike-friendly transit system.
– A New York City reporter breaks the news that people riding bikes in bike lanes might be terrorists!

City of Portland street cleaner truck douses riders on Williams
“No honking, no alert, just drove by and soaked us all.”
— Caroline Dao
Last night just after 10:30, a group of people were headed home from the Timbers game, riding up North Williams Avenue near Knott Street (just north of Russell). According to Caroline Dao, who was in the group, a City of Portland street cleaning truck was also headed northbound. As it approached, Dao says, it “soaked us all.”
“No honking, no alert,” Dao recalled via email to BikePortland, “it just drove by and soaked us.”
