Pedalpalooza Daily: Thursday, June 16th

Tutus! Birds! Alleys! Serious wonking! French Bikes! There really is something for everyone on the Pedalpalooza menu today. View the full list below…

7:00am Sisyphean Cruller Crawl – East Side
Join us for a mythic climb up one or two of Portland’s finest hills. We’ll haul breakfast to the top for anyone that makes it, and we won’t leave you behind. Moderate pace. Righteous struggle. Just rewards. Meet Wilshire Park , NE 35th Ave and Skidmore St

9:30am Mid-Week Gorge Ride
We’ll take off on the ride at 10am sharp, get there early for ride prep. Riding to quiet country roads and spectacular scenery is easier than you think. The Columbia River Gorge is just a short bicycle ride away. And you can totally handle it if you are an everyday rider. Bring a snack, water, and Trimet fare. Geared bikes recommended. Approx 40 miles round trip. Watch for lambs. Meet at Ruby Junction/E 197 MAX Station, SE Burnside St and SE 197th Ave, Gresham.

9:30am Back Alley Ride
This was our FAVORITE (non-naked) ride in 2010, so we were shocked to see that it was not listed in 2011. Now it is. Our team of distinguished pandas will make certain that Le Tour de Back Alleys is butt loads better than bearable. Bring a mud-worthy bike, or else be as skilled as your skinny-tired guides. No ambulances and first-aid kits provided. It’s really not difficult, just be prepared for a little gravel and moss and the usual Pandamonium. Riding the alleyWays is loads of fun and ridiculousness. Meet at Random Order (coffee!), NE 18th Ave and Alberta St

12:00pm Bike Brown Bag – The Portland Society
Come learn about the Portland Society, a nonprofit alliance of Portland women who are invested in both business and bicycling. Find out how they create opportunities for networking, leadership, professional development, growing their businesses, and riding bikes. Portland Building, 1120 SW 5th Ave

2:00pm The Fineries of French bikes
A celebration of French made and French inspired bicycles. Starting with a ride (~10 miles) to collect wine, cheese, and bread, followed by a light picnic where we can relax and gawk at the various examples of bikes that have joined us today. Meet at NW section of pond at Laurelhurst Park, 3700 SE Ankeny St.

5:00pm Birds at the Bottom
Join the Lloyd TMA in a casual bike ride from NE 6th & NE Holladay to Oaks Bottom in Sellwood. Listen to Metro’s very own bird connoisseur speak about the history of Oaks Bottom, as well as the birds in the park. There will be binoculars, there will be birds, and there will be a bottom (Oaks Bottom that is). Meets at J Cafe, 533 NE Holladay St.

5:00pm Cycle for Sisters
Join us to visit sites from Sisters Of The Road’s history – by bike! Sisters’ delicious cornbread available to snack on at the beginning of the ride. Easy pace; many stops; route is only a few miles around downtown. $10 suggested donation to benefit Sisters, all are welcome and no one will be turned away for lack of funds! Meet at Sisters Of The Road, 133 NW 6th Ave.

5:30pm I Ride Tour of N/NE PDX
Explore new corners of north and northeast Portland and see who’s riding in these neighborhoods on a tour of the I Ride Media Advocacy bus benches. The Community Cycling Center’s Program Director, Laura Koch will talk about increasing access to bicycling in N and NE Portland. The ride will culminate in a photo shoot where you can have your I Ride portrait taken. Please bring your helmet! Meet at 1700 NE Alberta St

5:30pm Barbur High Crash Corridor
A commute outside your comfort zone! Join SW Portland Active Transportation advocates on a bike tour of Barbur Blvd, aka Hwy 99W. The tour will highlight bike lane and sidewalk gaps, especially the dreaded Barbur Bridges, broad expanses of commercial driveways with left turn conflicts, perilous unsignalized crossings, numerous freeway ramps and the autocentric West Portland crossroads. Tour stops will discuss active transportation improvement designs and feasibility. We can stop and pay our respects at sites of several fatal crashes involving cyclists and pedestrians that occurred in 2010. Meet at Portland Bldg, 1120 SW 5th Ave

6:00pm Tutu Food Cart 2: Electric Boogaloo
Last year’s ride was such a smashing fun time, we’re dusting off our puffy skirts and riding again. Come start your pedal-filled evening off with one amazing spectacle of a dinner ride (bring cash) to a few prime food carts hubs & we’ll see where the night rolls… Black Swan re-enactment maybe? As the Mercury wrote in 2010, “This ride pretty much sums up the entire spirit of Pedalpalooza!” So slip one over, roll on down, and build up that appetite. Tutus are the new PBR. Meet at Salmon Street Fountain, SW Salmon St and Naito Pkwy.

7:00pm Bloomsday!
A relaxed and fun ride celebrating James Joyce’s Ulysses. We will meet at Katie O’Brien’s and ride to a few Irish pubs, having drinks and reading a few lines here and there. 1900’s Irish dress encouraged but not required! Meet at Katie O’Brien’s, 2809 NE Sandy Blvd,

7:30pm Music Box River Ride
The Music Box River Ride is in full effect for Pedalpalooza! BYBike, BYO, BYF’s and BYBooty for this sunset ride up to the river – followed by a dance party/bonfire. Other sound systems welcome – we’ll link up on the beach. Meet at Irving Park, NE 7th Ave and Fargo St

7:30pm Werewolf Hustle
We ride far and fast. Monthly, under every full moon. Expect to go 15-20mph. Expect to travel 15-30mi. Be nice. We’ll be ending at the river bonfire so bring some snacks, refreshments, and a warmer layer. Meet at Hawthorne Food Carts, SE Hawthorne Blvd and 12th
