do a Palm Tree Ride!?

This weekend the weather shouldn’t be too harsh, and we’ve got a few great events to keep you out there enjoying it.  Have fun and be safe!

Friday, January 14th

11:45pm: Midnight Mystery Ride
Take advantage of tonight’s unseasonably mild weather on the monthly late-night group ride where the location is a secret until you get there. This month’s ride meets at 5th Quadrant on N Williams and NE Failing, and leaves promptly at midnight.

Saturday, January 15th

12 noon – 7:00 pm: 2011 Portland Winter Classic Flatland Jam
Local BMX shop Goods is hosting a full day of flatland action and fun. Everyone is welcome. Come out and ride or just hang out. Indoor location in case of wet/cold weather… Come out to 418 NE Flanders to, “Watch old men doing wheelies.”

1:45pm: Kidical Mass–Sellwood
This fun family ride takes on special significance this month amidst passionate discussion of a proposed bill in Salem that would prohibit children under six years old from being carried on bikes or trailers. Come treat yourself and your little ones to a great time with great company, and show the community just how many families choose bicycles for transportation. This month’s ride meets outside of Oaks Pioneer Chruch, just off the Springwater corridor in Sellwood.

3:00pm-5:00pm: Gay for Bikes
This monthly event is an opportunity for the local gay community to meet and ride to and discover some of Portland’s great LGBQT resources. Ride begins at SW Park Ave and Mill St and ends at Friend’s Coffee in SE Portland.

Sunday, January 16th

10:30am: Wintertime Palm Tree Ride
This great annual ride is near and dear to my heart, as it was the first “bike fun” ride I ever rode when I first came to town, and I’ve been addicted ever since. Let local bike-ucation expert Shawn Granton, of the Urban Adventure League, take you on a winter tour around Portland of local palm trees and other tropical foliage. It’s the perfect cure for your winter blues. Ride meets at Bipartisan Cafe at 7901 SE Stark.
