2 weeks of bike fun!

The first weekend of festivities is finally upon us. Gaze in amazement at the variety of today’s ride offerings from your friends and neighbors. From parades and picnics to jousting tournaments and gardening. From Milwaukie to Vancouver sporting costumes to birthday suits. Ride safely and enjoy!

9:00am Urban Learning to Garden Tour
Educational rides are some of the gems of Pedalpalooza. This one is limited to 20 people so RSVP and enjoy a guided visit to Zenger Farms. For novices and advanced gardeners too. Meet at the Urban Farm Store, 21st and SE Belmont. Bring a notebook, camera and three bucks.

10:00am Three Peaks Ride
Meet at 1225 SW 19th Ave for the triple crown: Council Crest to Mt. Tabor to Rocky Butte. Stops for food and drinks.

10:00am Trolley Trail Ride
Meets at SE McClaughlin and Washington in Milwaukie and tours the soon-to-be-developed trolley trail. Learn some trolley history, see wetlands and interesting homes. About 2 hrs.

10:30am Eat Donuts to Curb Hunger
A benefit for St. Francis Dining Hall. Bring some cash and tour the finest donut joints in town. Meets at NE 26th and Everett. About 1.5 hrs.

10:30am Wanderlust Men’s Ride
The Pedalpalooza edition of this weekly Saturday mens ride meets at Mio Gelato on NE 15th and Brazee.

11:00am Fiets of Parenthood
A family friendly series of skill and style competitions. Kids required. BYO family toting setup. This one should be a hoot. Clever Cycles SE 9th and Hawthorne.

12:00pm Cirque du Cycling
Presented by Laughing Planet Cafe, this is a free street festival, a circus, a bike race, a parade and a benefit for Albina Youth Opportunity School. Going on from noon to 8pm. Lompoc Brewery even made a special batch called “Helles on Wheels” to celebrate.

12:00pm The Ebike Ride
Meet at the eBike Store on Vancouver/Alberta and buzz around “ebike notable places”.

1:00pm Ride to Pumpapalooza
An escorted pedal via I-5 to the not-far-off land called Washington for pump track championships. Meet at Paul Bunyan – 8440 N. Interstate.

1:30pm Scavenger Hunt
A variation on the theme where you bring 20 copies of a list of 10 items for others to find by bike. Bring a camera and scavenge until 5. Alberta Park covered bball courts.

1:30pm Cirque Family Ride
A 3.5 mile loop for all abilities starting at Grand Central Bakery, 714 N. Fremont. Checkin starts at 12:45.

2:00pm Girly Bike Ride
A mellow ride for beginners and up starting at Saturday Market on the riverfront. Goes until 4ish. Decorated bikes encouraged.

2:00pm Sunny Nekkid Ride I
Meet at NE 39th and Glisan for a daytime clothing optional jaunt. Route based on group decision. Sure to raise eyebrows again this year.

2:00pm Stumptown Joustdown
What better way to spend a Saturday afternoon at sunny Col. Summers Park than lancing your friends off their bicycles? Entertainment value = High.

2:00pm Pumpapalooza!
Pump track championships until 10pm. 1417 NW 103 Circle. Vancouver, WA. Also polo and BBQ. Meet up on Oregon side at 1pm if you wish.

3:00pm Art Bike Parade
Mississippi Ave. and N. Failing is the place to catch this circus. Parade rolls for one hour. Many other festivities too.

3:00pm npGREENWAY trail
Discover the future connection from Steel Bridge on the east bank to St. John’s. Pub stop after. It’s going to be wonderful! Movie in Mckenna Park too. npGreenway.org.

4:00pm Family Cycle Picnic
Another family oriented event, hooray! Starting at Ladd’s (1600 SE Harrison) and heading for a picnic in Laurelhurst Park. Sounds beautiful.

7:00pm Star Wars vs. Star Trek
Have you been waiting all year for an excuse to break out your Boba Fett outfit? Need to take the tribbles out for air? This is the ride for you! Meet at OMSI parking lot and ride til whenever.

7:30pm Fig Leif Naked Run/Ride
The 5th edition jaybird run now includes a simultaneous bike ride. Gather above the Thurman St. entrance to Forest Park at 7:15 for both modes.

8:00pm PeeWee’s Bike Adventure
Meet at Portland Rock Gym (E 12th/Burnside) at 8, pedal for a drink and back for the outdoor screening at 10.

11:59pm Shiva’s Slaves Mob
If you can combine late night party games, music and riding around with renunciation and striving for moksha, this is the place to be. If you can’t, just join the party. Sadhu attire encouraged.
