After the Cross Crusade rampaged all last weekend in Astoria (and a bit too much if this thread on the OBRA email list is any indication), the cyclocross action will just get more heated this weekend.
Tonight there’s a pre-registration party for the Oregon Bicycle Racing Association’s 2009 Cyclocross Championships being held this weekend in Salem. The party goes from 6-8 pm at Hopworks Urban Brewery in Southeast Portland and it’s being hosted by the Buy Local Cycling Team. Racers will be treated to a live band, legendary Hopworks beer, race videos, a chance to preview the course, and more.
The OBRA championships race is Saturday at the Oregon State Fairgrounds in Salem. Winners in each OBRA category will be crowned champs and there’s a $1,500 cash payout for Men’s and Women’s “A” riders.
Also on Saturday is a ride planned as a pre-cursor to Sunday’s Singlespeed Cyclocross World Championships. On Sunday, the mayhem and craziness that is the SSCXWC will once again take over Portland International Raceway (PIR). Last year this race was full of costumes, bubbles, beer, and other types of debauchery.
Before the SSCXWC race on Sunday is the seventh race in the Cross Crusade series. The racing starts at 8:50 am out at PIR and there will be racing, an expo area and festivities going on all day. Head out to PIR and get a taste of Portland’s renown cyclocross scene.

Jonathan! You’re making me really miss the PDX CX scene. Things are improving here in CO, but it’s still a far cry from the crazy CX goings-on in Oregon.
If someone DOES head out to the Cross Crusades or the SSCXWC this Sunday, remeber that there IS another event at PIR this weekend (involving cars on the racetrack). The cyclocross racing take place on the north side of the PIR venue — after turning off of Denver St./Expo Terrace street, continue straight west on Broadacre Road (do not turn in through the main gate).
