Weekend Event Guide: Park(ing) Day, bike moves, beer

We’ve got a great lineup of events this weekend, and the weather promises to be at least partly cooperative.

Friday, September 18

Friday is Park(ing) Day
On Park(ing) Day, on-street car parking spots are temporarily turned into parks of all sorts. Metro is celebrating the occasion all over the region to promote its Intertwine trail network (and to contribute to it, at least until the parking meters run out).

5:30: Kidical Mass Downtown
Bring your parents and meet at the playground at NW Park and Davis for a friendly ride around downtown.

6:00pm: Biking + Pilates: Free Workshop
This workshop will educate cyclists on some great exercises and stretches that can help to make their experience on their bike more pleasant. Workshop at at EDGE Fitness located on 1502 N. Ainsworth at Interstate Ave.

6:15pm: Happy Friday Ride
Meet at Palio’s (the coffeshop in the middle of Ladd’s Addition) for a cheerful, bell-ringing ride around SE Portland. Fun and family-friendly.

9:30pm: Dropout Bike Club Monthly Ride
Bring your freak bike (whatever that means to you) and your mobile sound system if you’ve got one to Col Summers Park at SE 20th and Belmont. Dress warm. Don’t plan to sleep.

Saturday, September 19

10:00am – 1:00pm: Autumn Adventure Ride
Join the friendly folks at Transportation Options on a ride around town, up to Vancouver, and back. About 25 miles. Meet at Peninsula Park.

10:30am to late: Double Trouble Pirate Bike Moves
If you thought moving a fridge across town was the most badass bike move stunt, check this out. At 10:30am, Katelyn is moving from Sellwood to inner Southeast; at 2:00pm, Matt is moving from inner Southeast to North Portland. Also, it’s talk like a Pirate Day. Those who act accordingly (and participate in both moves) will be awarded pirate treasure.

Noon – 10:00pm: Biketobeerfest
What my last post said. Be there. 2944 SE Powell (Here’s a neat map of relatively safe route options — including the better Powell crossings).

Sunday, September 20

10:00am: Sauvie Island Adventure
Meet the Easy Riders and Urban Adventure League at the Peninsula Park gazebo (N Albina Ave at N Ainsworth). Take a short ride out to the Kruger Farms corn maze, or a longer loop out to Collins Beach.

4:00pm: Scrapper Bike Ride
Reputable Portland re-use org SCRAP is starting a bike club, promising regular fun, mellow, well-decorated group rides. First one meets at SCRAP, NE MLK and Stanton.

Monday, September 21

11:00am – 11:00pm: Hopworks Urban Brewery Fundraiser for the Community Cycling Center
Write “CCC” on your bill all day Monday at HUB and a portion of the sale will go to support the Community Cycling Center’s bike safety programs for low-income adults and children. HUB is at 2944 SE Powell.

Discuss your plans and promote more events below.
