Streetfilms captures the magic of Sunday Parkways

“This is definitely the future of cities…of civilization frankly.”
–from Streetfilms’ video on Sunday Parkways

OK folks, just as your tears of joy were finally drying up from the awesome Sunday Parkways event in North Portland, Clarence Eckerson of Streetfilms has posted his video of the event.

Watch this great video below and feel the magic all over again (and don’t miss my impersonation of Gil Penalosa at the end!)…

Big thanks to Clarence Eckerson, Streetfilms, and the Livable Streets Network from New York City for putting together this fantastic video.

That was you Jonathan? Jeez – I thought it was Gil… I had to watch it again!

Good grief. I better get with it and sell a whole lotta Street Roots to match the production quality of SteetFilms. BEAUTIFUL photography and post, Clarence.

Jonathan, I heart the Gil impersonation. If the BikePortland gig don\’t work out, you might have a future as a Rich Little impersonator.

I had a great time a Sunday Parkways. I think it would be great to have some routes that were ALWAYS closed to non-residential cars. Can you imagine if the only cars down Clinton St. (or another bike boulevard) were residents?
I know I enjoyed my ride a lot more by not worrying about getting hit by some car turning right or crossing into the bike lane. It was really sad when 2:00 hit and I had to ride home in traffic.
Seeing so many people out as a community instead of inside their own little yards was wonderful.
I hope they do this again.

Thanks! Since I was sick and cold from the early morning hours, I was glad things got better and was able to post something decent enough.

Since I was unable to find Gil during the ride, I was honored to have Gil\’s long lost cousin appear on this video.

Unbelievable. Now I am *sad* watching the video.

Sad with the realization that despite being out there all six hours… sad with the realization that I missed *so much more*!

Hurry up, let\’s do this again! 😀

When asked what he thought about Western civilization, Mahatma Ghandi answered (allegedly)
\”I think it would be a very good idea\”. Riding in all that magic made me think we may be getting close…
Thanks, Clarence, Jonathan and Streetfilms.

This is probably the best 5 min of video I\’ve seen in a long time… great work and the impersonation of Mr. Penalosa was priceless. That\’s one to break out and show when the girls are questioning dad\’s \’cool-ness\’ when they hit adolescence (of course, this would be done in front of all their friends when hosting a sleepover, etc.)!

Aaron – great job with your custom trike!

Jonathan – I laughed my ass off with the impersonation.

Paul Tay – is out-Portlanding Portlanders with the Santa suit. You\’d never know he came 2,100 miles from Oklahoma just for this event.

Clarence – MEGA-AWESOME video, the best yet. The only way it could\’ve been better is if the sasquatch had made a cameo somewhere. Maybe next Sunday Parkways? Maybe multiple sasquatches? Sasquatchi? (what is the plural, anyway?)

Aaron\’s AMAZING tandem \’bent totally BLEW me away! It\’s the PERFECT filming platform for bike events and foot races.

This is fantastic!

Ah, so Santa = Paul Tay. Paul, I felt bad because I had to pass on the fist bump. Alas, I had a scalding hot coffee in my fist-bumping hand, and would\’ve spilled all over you. No one wants to scald Santa!

Folks,

I did a feature of Sunday Parkways on my site: Portland Family Adventures with pictures and a short video.

Check it out!

This is fantastic! I will work to try something like this in Boston. You should put this video on youtube so the whole world can spread it around and let everyone know that Portland is where it is at! Great stuff.

Vince,

I clicked on the link in your name, but it didn\’t take me to the article… Maybe I\’m blind, but I did a quick scan around the site and didn\’t see the Sunday Parkways feature you are talking about. Can you post a direct URL?

Thanks-

Graham, #14, Santa sends his thanks for sparing an unwelcomed scalding. Maybe next year, you can bump da Santa or BE da Santa? Naaaaaaah. Forget it.

This event makes me proud to be a part of the cycling community and proves that even in North Portland, we can all come together in peace! AWESOME job, Portland!

Jonathan, your impersonation was so good, Jess thought it was a voice over. Totally classic!
