On my way into lunch at Redwing Cafe in Southeast Portland today I noticed cards hanging from the bikes parked out front.
Upon further inspection this is what I found:

It’s been over a year since I first shared the news that the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) was considering improvements to the ailing Bryant Street bike and pedestrian bridge.
Now, I’m pleased to learn that the Piedmont and Arbor Lodge neighborhoods — in close partnership with ODOT — are moving forward with their efforts to make the bridge safer, more attractive, and more well-known.

In case you haven’t been paying attention, the Sellwood Bridge Project is slowly but surely reaching some important decision points.
Since bicycle and pedestrian issues will play a major factor in the design of this bridge, we should all be paying attention.
Gordon Price lecture
Gordon Price will give a free presentation on the effective integration of transportation in high-density environments, with an emphasis on land use. Price is a former City of Vancouver, B.C. Councilor and current Simon Fraser University and University of British Columbia Professor who teaches, researches, and writes extensively on urban development and planning.

Eastside Theater History Bicycle Tour
Portland has so many great old cinemas, many of them built during the “Golden Age”–1910s through 1930s.� This ride will explore theaters throughout the eastside–some still standing and functioning as cinemas, some just a memory.� After the full ride we’ll take in a movie at one of these grand palaces, bring appropriate cash if you’d like to join us! (End time is approximate.)� Also, there will be a potluck brunch at the hostel before the ride (11am cooking, noon eating), stop on by early to fuel up for the trip1

Sellwood Bridge Meeting
The fourth public event for the Sellwood Bridge project will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Oaks Park Dance Pavilion.
Presentations will be held every hour, beginning at 6:00 pm, and will be followed by a question and answer session. The goal for this meeting is to share information about the alternatives that have been selected for detailed analysis in the draft environmental impact statement (draft EIS), obtain public feedback on preferred bridge types for a replacement structure, and share information about potential funding sources.

Time to be thankful
I’m thankful for family, friends,

It’s that time of year where many of us feast and pause for a moment to think about what we’re thankful for.
As far as bike-related stuff goes, I could write a list a mile long of things I’m thankful for. So instead of getting specific, I’ll just say that I’m most grateful for all of you; the intelligent, active, hard-working and passionate people who give Portland such a bright and bikey future.
I’ll also take this opportunity to share my gratitude for all the advertisers and donors who support this site. Without them I couldn’t continue to devote so much time and attention to my work.
And of course I’m thankful for my three beautiful ladies at home.
