In just a few short years Ayleen Crotty’s Filmed by Bike event has gone from a quaint little bike movie get together, to a full-blown film festival.

Part of the fun is that she chooses folks from the community to serve on the official jury. I did it a few years ago and it was really cool. We got a sneak peek at all the films, helped with final selections, and got a nice shout out in the official event program.

Rides planned from memorial sites to rally on Saturday

Please consider gathering before Saturday’s rally at one of the all-too-many sites around town where people have been killed while bicycling or walking, and then riding or walking with the group to Waterfront Park. All processions will be timed to arrive at Salmon Street Springs by 11:45am.

The list below also includes sites that haven’t yet been spoken up for. If you would like to lead a ride from these sites or others not listed, please email eleanor dot blue at gmail dot com. The list will be updated throughout Thursday and Friday.

Please wear a black armband for mourning, red if you’ve been injured. Armbands will be available at these gatherings and at Waterfront Park, but you’re encouraged to bring your own.

Join us downtown for the 2007 Bike Light Parade on Thursday, November 15 at 6:00 pm.

We’ll meet at SW Park & Burnside (click here for map) and enjoy an escorted ride down Broadway – fully lit, of course!

**Don’t forget to come over to BikeCraft III after the parade. BikeCraft goes till 10:00 and it’s happening at Lucky Lab Beer Hall in Northwest. 19th and Quimby.

City hears from the public, presents ideas on enforcement, education

Last night in the Portland Building, Commissioner Adams and his Bike Safety Committee heard public testimony on bike safety issues and gave a presentation titled “Bike Safety in Portland” (view presentation).

From all reports (I was not able to attend myself), the comments shared were constructive and many people thanked Adams and PDOT for being responsive to these issues thus far.

Single Speed Cyclocross World Championships raise the bar for raunchy racing

Regrettably, I wasn’t able to attend last weekend’s cyclocross debauchery out at Estacada Timber Park (30 miles southeast of downtown Portland).

Not only was it the sixth stop in the Cross Crusade series, but the event also crowned the King and Queen of single speed cyclocross.

Yes, it was the first annual Single Speed Cyclocross World Championships.
