off-road bike stolen from close SE overnight. Bike was locked up and has been for months outside our apt. The bike is almost brand new, tires still have nubs on it. shimano brakes and front suspention on it. minimal scratches on it as well. Bike looks brand new and if any shop sees a bike being sold that looks like new, be careful. Will update as I get more info.

As part of the Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail Project, Metro is looking for your input to design “vibrant, attractive and safe” light rail stations.

…The workshops will help to identify important information such as station access for riders, street improvements, traffic circulation for affected vehicles, transit connections and redevelopment opportunities.”

Beautiful Klein quantum with full (older) dura-ace, open-pros laced to dura-ace hubs, yellow stripes on tires (continentals, I believe). Bike is in excellent condition, no scratches or dings. White lettering on frame, matching fork, cateye computer.

just got new front middle gear wheel. also had shifter replaced for back gears. does not match shifter for front gears. also just added black fenders to both wheels. smallest front gear skips and is moderately worn.

New corporate-sponsored racks in the Pearl

Thanks to a partnership between Kryptonite and the City of Portland, bike parking just got a lot easier for students at the Pacific Northwest College of Art.

Last Friday, work crews installed 9 staple racks (that’s room for about 18 bikes), in what was formerly one car parking spot. The new racks are directly adjacent to the entrance to the school’s main building at NW 13th and Johnson in the Pearl District.

Cross Crusade off to record start

The 2007 Cross Crusade kicked off in fine style yesterday at Alpenrose Dairy. Race organizers reported that a record 1,078 racers took part in the action (that’s up from 760 at the same event last year!).

The course was a challenging mix of bumpy downhills, tight turns, and obstacles.

Earlier this week, Race Director Brad Ross told me he had concerns about the capacity of the course to handle so many racers at once. From what I heard (and experienced while racing myself), it all worked. Most people I spoke to said they had a great time out there.

Cyclist survives run-in with MAX

Somehow, a cyclist survived a run-in with a MAX train on N. Interstate Avenue today.

Here’s the Oregonian’s report:

“A bicyclist who was hit by a MAX train and ended up lying flat underneath it seems to have gotten away with non-life-threatening injuries, rescuers said.
