🚨 Please note that BikePortland slows down during this time of year as I have family in town and just need a break! Please don't expect typical volume of news stories and content. I'll be back in regular form after the new year. Thanks. - Jonathan 🙏

Have a great Fourth of July

Hope you enjoy your Independence today. On my ride into the office this morning the streets were wonderfully quiet and empty.

I’ve got an interview with Momentum Magazine in a few minutes, but I’ll be cutting out after that to spend the day with family and friends.

I’ll leave you with a few shots I snapped at the Bike Master Plan Ride last night (report coming tomorrow).

In a few minutes I’m riding over to City Hall for a roundtable discussion about Portland’s bike scene with U.S. Congressman Earl Blumenauer.

He wants to know the latest and greatest on all the two-wheeled happenings.

One of his staffers has asked me to talk about,

“the intersection of bike policy, culture, business, safety, programs, etc. in Portland.”

Wow. That’s a tall order. Hopefully I say something that makes sense.

I’m curious. If you were in my position, what would you talk about (I realize I should have asked this question sooner)?

There are multiple goals for these rides :
1) Education. To have Portlanders understand the standard tools the City uses to create bikeways; how we use them and why we use them. Most importantly, people need to experience them and get a feel for how they work and begin to think about what might work better.
