🚨 Please note that BikePortland slows down during this time of year as I have family in town and just need a break! Please don't expect typical volume of news stories and content. I'll be back in regular form after the new year. Thanks. - Jonathan 🙏

In case you haven’t heard (or seen the banners), TriMet is throwing a party for cyclists next Friday (7/13).
The reason? Bribery, plain and simple.
Their big light rail construction project has torn up several parts of the I-205 bike path, so they figure to make nice they’ll offer a supported bike ride to show us the detour, give us a bunch of free food and entertainment and then, to top it all of, offer a ton of great prizes.

The sixth installment of PDOT’s monthly Bicycle Master Plan Rides took a closer look at bikeway facilities in and around the central city.
A hearty group of cyclists followed the lead of City bike coordinator Roger Geller to the ride’s first stop: the South Waterfront. On our way, we sampled the handy wheelgutters that help cyclists get up the stairs between SW Market and Harrison.

On Tuesday, U.S. Congressman Earl Blumenauer led a roundtable discussion about bicycles at Portland’s City Hall.
His goal for the event was to get a “reality check” on the latest bike happenings in Portland by listening to short presentations from local bike experts and insiders.
Local consulting firm Alta Planning and Design has landed a contract to develop a bicycle master plan for Dubai of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Alta — who is currently working with PDOT on an update to Portland’s bike master plan — has been hired for the four-month project.
According to Alta principal (and former PDOT bike coordinator) Mia Birk, the Sheik of Dubai is very interested in promoting health and fitness among his people. Dubai, like many highly prosperous Arab nations, is facing rising rates of heart disease and obesity.
Metro wants our input to help them set priorities on how to spend the $225 million dollars they secured through their Natural Areas bond measure.
They’ve had a series of open houses and the comment period ends this Friday (7/6) (you can comment online, see below).

on The Night Ride, a benefit bicycle ride on Saturday, July 7th, 2007

popcorn. The next stop is a disco party en route to the finish line
all-you-can-eat doughnut feast. This ride is a benefit for the Bicycle
