If you’ve been wanting to dust off your rig and ride to work, Bike to Work Day (May 16th) is the perfect day to start.

No matter what part of the city you live in, PDOT wants to make it even easier for you to make it happen. They’ve unveiled a map of six guided rides (below) leaving from all parts of the city and leading to breakfast and festivities at Pioneer Courthouse Square.

Whether you need motivation, friends to ride with, or just help finding your way, here are the locations and times of PDOT’s Bike to Work Day rides (*see update below for more rides led by BikePortland readers!):

Life imitates art on Cycle Oregon

If you’re new to this site, you might have missed my coverage from Cycle Oregon last September. I posted daily reports (when I could find a signal) and uploaded hundreds of photos from the road.

One of my shots, taken from the saddle while riding into the small town of Union on day four, was noticed by artist Aimee Erickson. She used it as a reference for an illustration to decorate some Cycle Oregon stationery.

Has Potter been a bike-friendly Mayor?

When Portland Mayor Tom Potter decided to cut funding for the Bicycle Master Plan, his office received over 300 calls and emails, the third highest response of any issue during his tenure

Potter recently told KGW-TV that the community’s reaction was “dissappointing,” because, “he feels he has been a big supporter of the cycling community.”

I thought about that quote and began to wonder just how bike-friendly he has been since taking office in 2004.

Vernonia Bike Skills Park gets funding boost

Bikes Belong, a national coalition of bicycle manufacturers and retailers, has just announced they will give a $5,000 grant to the Vernonia Bike Skills Park.

Here’s the official word:

“Our funding is earmarked for construction of the skills development trail, the first element of the park. When complete, the skills park will include also a BMX track, pump track, cyclocross course, and singletrack trails.”
