There’s a very important call for action coming out of America’s leading bicycle advocacy organizations.

The buzz of bad news began at the National Bike Summit where we learned that in 2006 states were required to return part of their transportation budgets to Congress. Many states chose to do this by drastically cutting cash from a key bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure funding program known as Transportation Enhancements (TE).

Bike Oasis coming to Sandy Boulevard

Hawthorne Boulevard isn’t the only street in Portland that will get a much-anticipated “bike oasis” by the end of this summer.

As part of their Sandy Boulevard Resurfacing and Streetscape project, PDOT will install one on the south side of Sandy Blvd, at the intersection of Sandy, Hancock, and 43rd.

According to PDOT project manager Chris Armes, they will replace the concrete at an existing curb extension to build the footing for the oasis. She says she expects it to be installed by the beginning of this June.

Is Oregon the best state for bike racing?

Two things have recently come to my attention that have got me thinking the answer to this question might just be, Yes!

Road Bike Action Magazine
says Oregon is a “racing paradise.”

First, comes news that the premier issue of Road Bike Action magazine has a blurb about the Oregon racing scene that calls the state a “racing hotbed.”

The article goes on to say that,

“If you happen to live in the Portland area, from the first week in June to the second week in July, you could race seven days a week.”
