Emily Gardner‘s new hairdo shows that she’s always got bikes on her mind, literally.
When the BTA Policy Advocate recently dyed her hair she decided to go with something that pays homage to bike-related road markings.
Emily says she’s got sharrows in the front, bike boulevard markings in the back (photo of the real thing), and on the sides are rings to symbolize traffic circles.
Now that’s commitment.

Nah, that’s not commitment: that’s Emily.
Love IT!
I am sorry, but sharrows are ludicrous, and ineffective in alerting the driver to what is going on. And the people that need to be alerted are certainly the drivers.
The only ones I have seen that may be effective are the very big ones, of which there are very few, and even they confuse drivers.
Let’s put signs where “drivers” will see them. At eye level…..
I do kinda like the haircut though.
I don’t know why the last post says anonymous, ’cause it is from me…..
I like to take credit for my rants…
I’m not so sure about sharrows either but I still like Emily’s hair
Sorry Dabby, but I’d think that the main reasons why sharrows might not be effective right now is because of lack of education. One cannot reasonable make the argument that road surface applied signage is not seen by drivers. A large percentage of the signage we see on the roads while driving is literally _on_the_road_! Whether they are the right size or not is a whole other discussion. There’s my 2 cents.
oh yeah Emily….. as I said the other day, nice hair… 🙂
I love the hair! As a bike rider, I am all for anything that raises awarenss about rider safety. Certainly a very bold hair appearance creates conversation AND raises awareness. What a unique and effective way to get folks thinking. Kudos to Emily and the BTA for all their hard work.
I saw her the other day at fred meyer. I was super excited since I had seen her here only days earlier. unfortunately my hands were too full to get a picture of my own.
